Adrienne & Mike’s Big Day (and the people who helped make it happen)!

This wedding was a unique one for us because not only was this day the joining of two people, it was the joining of a family.  The way they included the kids as often as possible in the events of the day truly represented that this was about more than just romance, it was about the love of a family.  This picture shows the special prayer they had during the ceremony to ask God to bless their new family.

One thing we really want to highlight about this wedding were the excellent vendors we worked with.  The ceremony was held at the Arizona Golf Resort in a special little area designated for weddings.  So it not only had the beautiful, open, expansive green of a golf course, but it also maintained an intimate quality within the walls of the fountain.

Though is was a hot summer day in Phoenix, Arizona, the Arizona Golf Resort made it as comfortable as possible by providing water for all the guests and umbrellas to offer extra shade to those who requested it.  The trees surrounding the wedding area also did a great job of shading and providing relief from the scorching sun (and of course they add that non-deserty look that we always savor as a welcome break from cactus ridden AZ)!  The location provided hotel rooms for the wedding party to get ready in as well as golf carts for transportation during photography so we could get around their enormous property with speed!  We were told there are all kinds of features on the grounds that we never even made it over to, including a fabulous lake!

All the people who work at the Arizona Golf Resort were super helpful and ready to assist us with our every little whim. It makes you kind of feel like a celebrity… or at least like someone on a local newstation or something!  The wedding coordinator at the resort that we worked with (April) was super kind and helpful as well, not to mention eager to go above and beyond in finding ways to make weddings at their venue even more wonderful than they already are (she asked for our opinion on the matter!).

I had to include the picture below in the blog because it totally cracks me up.  They insisted on getting what they called “a graduation” picture.  I love it because it’s so old school 90210.  Graduation photo indeed!

The other vendor we worked with at this wedding who totally impressed us was the wedding planning company that Adrienne and Mike hired to help coordinate their backyard reception (sounds like quite a challenging project if you ask me)!  A Simple Touch Wedding Decor is the company we’re discussing and the star from this company that shone out was the particular wedding planner we worked with, Molly.  We say wedding planner, but she was more like a wedding magician because not only could she do ANYTHING, she did it all with amazing style and class.  And of course, what’s a good leader without an amazing group of supporters who do an amazing job as well.  The entire team at A Simple Touch is outstanding.

I can’t even begin to tell you all the things that A Simple Touch provides.  Everything from wedding planning, to decorations and table cloths, to faux ceilings (I didn’t even know they made faux ceilings)!  Not to mention they do all the work involved with all of that stuff, like set up and tear down.   I mean, just look at these pictures… talk about skillz!  They provide all their own custom wrought iron decorations (like the arch you see in the cake picture below) that can be used for all kinds of things.  They had one giant wrought iron tower with a freaking chandelier in it!  I deem that as an official essential to every cool wedding.  Breanna’s offical seal of approval, now that’s a gift to be treasured! Ha ha, j/k.  But for real, look at these pictures! How cool is this stuff?!!

Out of all the things A Simple Touch does (and does well), their biggest value lies in the fact that they take the burden of the bride’s stress and shoulder it all themselves!  The entire night took on a life of it’s own as dessert trays were shifted in and out, chairs were shuffled, and hor d’oeuvre trays were stocked. All this went on while the couple just smiled cluelessly and danced the night away.  WONDERFUL!!  That’s exactly how a wedding should be!  But unfortunately we see far too many weddings that either begin or end with the bride in tears (and not the good, sentimental kind).  So to avoid makeup smears and smudges ladies, we highly recommend that you check out A Simple Touch and consider using them to be your official stress bearers!  Oh and as a side note, my favorite thing about Molly is that she’s carrying all this stress and she’s TOTALLY chill!  I never thought “chill” and “wedding planner” could go together in the same sentence before.  And this is a very important quality about her because a stressed wedding planner can create a bridezilla out of the most laidback girl, where a chilled out wedding planner can chill out the most high maintenance bride.

So if you haven’t figured it out by now, we want to say thank you to The Arizona Golf Resort and to A Simple Touch Wedding Decor … you guys are amazing!  And if you only hear one thing after reading this blog, hear this… the vendors you hire for your wedding can make or break the entire day!  So do your research, learn what to look for, and spend the money necessary to hire the best in some of these essential areas (even if it means skimping in areas that aren’t as vital)!  You may think you’re saving money, but if you end up with an obnoxious DJ, boring wedding photography, or an unorganized wedding planner… you’ve actually just wasted thousands of dollars!

We’ve worked with a lot of vendors over the years (both good and bad) and we are committed to helping everyone have their dream wedding, so send us an email if you need referrals in any area and we’ll do our best to help you find someone you’ll be very happy with.  Follow in the footsteps of Mike and Adrienne and leave the sucky weddings to the lame people!

Folklor…. what?!

That’s what I said when I first heard what Tracy McKee wanted us to take pictures of her doing!  It turns out (as Scottie informed me) that Folklorico dancing is a traditional Mexican Ballet that is done using beautiful costumes like these!  And oh my gosh are they elaborate!  Just the process of pulling together the stage makeup, giant hair accessories, and all the layers of clothing was like a special dance all on it’s own with each little step being just as important as the previous… it was quite a production!  I felt very cultured and educated learning about it all!:-)

We met Tracy when she hired us to do her wedding photography at Seven Canyons Golf Club in Sedona, Arizona about a year ago.  We had a great time getting to know her and Paul and we’ve kept in contact via Radiant’s Facebook Page ever since then!

Though we really hit it off with this couple, we haven’t gotten to see them since the wedding since they live in L.A.  So we were thrilled when they said they were headed off to Sedona, AZ again for a little anniversary get away and they wanted us to come stay with them for part of it!  Of course we couldn’t pass up the opportunity for a little portrait session while we were together as well!

Tracy has been dancing Folklorico for years so she really wanted to get some good pictures of her in the costumes that represent such an important part of her life.  Um… not to mention they make for BEAUTIFUL photographs!!  We’re thankful that we even got to take pictures of something so beautiful to show off in our portfolio!:-)

So we took a break from lounging around our little Villa while reading Elle UK on the porch (overlooking our scenic view), watching Twilight, and sipping drinks in the private hot tub to step out on the town for our little photo session… though it was hard to pull ourselves away from such luxury!  We went over to a shopping center called “Tlaquepaque” (yeah it’s hard to say AND to spell) because it has a nice old- school, Spanish flair to it so Tracy thought it would be an appropriate place.  And as you can see, she was right.

It was pretty funny though because it is a busy shopping center after all, so Tracy had cheers, photo ops with tourists, and random gawkers (asking if this was for a magazine) to deal with while attempting to pose and dance.  Scottie and I just laughed and said, “good thing she spent so much time dancing as various characters at Disneyland and she knows how to handle all this!”  She seemed oddly at ease as she stood with her arm around a random man who flashed a cheesy smile at his wife holding the camera!  Classy as always, Tracy!

All in all it was a FANTASTIC trip and a much needed break for us.  Thank you SO much, Paul & Tracy, for letting us come crash your place for a couple of days and for sharing all your food and wine with us (and your magazines!).  We had a blast hanging out with you both and hope to do it again sometime soon!

Kari + Collin = Love forever!

When we first walked up to the Farm at South Mountain in Phoenix, AZ our first thought was… “are we still in Arizona?”  It looked like a cute little picnic place from a Mark Twain novel or something!  Our second thought was… “and we get to hang out with some of our favorite people all day today!”  We’ve been friends with Kari and Collin for years and we’ve both known them together and apart so we’ve been privileged to watch the people and this relationship grow up to the point of marriage!

(Here’s the beautiful bride, Kari.  She has the most beautiful alabaster skin (the kind that almost no one in Arizona is able to maintain with our sun damaged skin and all that) and her dark hair contrasts it perfectly.  So when I saw the cute little flowers strategically placed in that dark hair, I had to catch my breath she was so beautiful (and I’m sure Collin almost passed out when he saw first her!).)

(It’s so fun when we know everyone in the bridal party because it helps us tailor the pics to match their personalities… plus we know just how crazy they’re willing to get for a photo!  Okay, yeah, we told them to smile and laugh in this picture… but I promise everyone WAS this happy all day!  It definitely fit the “joyful occasion” description you often hear about weddings!)

(Thanks Kari for being willing to risk that white dress on an outdoor picnic table!  We hope you’re more than pleased with the results!!  I love this picture because it looks like a magical, fairy tale forest!  This is DEFINITELY a princess picture.:-)

070(This picture totally has a classic quality that so reflects this couple.  You just know they’re going to be together forever and this picture makes them look timeless.  I love how it feels like they’re walking off to the enjoy the rest of their lives together.)

Congratulations you guys!  Don’t forget to call us to hang out once you’re all settled in! We love you both!

Breanna as a “featured photographer”!

So check me out, it’s official…  I’ll try not to get a big head, but I have been chosen as this month’s “featured photographer” by the Bokeh Pot website!  You might be able to learn more about me reading my answers to those questions than you ever have reading my own blog!  Click here to see my feature.

Radiant Love Supports….Branded (Summer ’09)

Branded is a collaboration of Government, Business, Church, and University leaders who have come together to eradicate sexual exploitation of children in Phoenix.

Attacking the Problem

Churches, law enforcement, government officials, market place leaders, non-profit organizations and passionate individuals have joined forces to fight against the sexual exploitation of children. They have come together to raise advocacy, develop preventative programs, and build a holistic secure community for rehabilitation of those coming out of the darkness of that world. The ultimate desire is to meet the physical, spiritual, and social needs of children affected by sex slavery, being committed to the rescue and renewal of the “one”.

When people think of Human Trafficking or Sex Slavery most would consider it an issue elsewhere. Thailand… China… Eastern Europe… We need to let people know that it happens in Phoenix, and it happens frequently! The average age of entry into prostitution in the city of Phoenix is 13 years old. A 7th grade girl. In NO way is this acceptable. Therefore, one way that the public can act to prevent this issue from occuring is by raising awareness. Simply by getting the word out, educating others on the issue, and making potential-victims aware of these dangers, we will prevent girls from falling prey. If our city is to rid itself from this evil, the general public most be made aware of its existence.

There is a great need to revise and submit key legislation that will protect girls that are victims, and prosecute those who gain from child rape for profit. Based on provisions and loop-holes in the current laws, Johns are able to walk away from their crimes with not much more than a small fine. This, while under-age girls are charged as criminals instead of treated as victims. The BRANDED movement is poised to confront our lawmakers about this injustice, and encourage them to make a change in the law.

As of now, the only option available options for a charged prostitute that is a minor, is to either be sent to a Juvenile Detention Center, be admitted into Child Protective Services, or return home. Victims of sexual abuse, and particularly sex trafficking, suffer from a variety of psychological, physical and social wounds that must be treated within a controlled and supportive setting. We see the need to provide an alternative to the punitive options currently available. One that openly accepts these girls as victims to be treated, and not criminals to be penalized. Please visit our partner organization - StreetLight – to embrace the vision of a village of hope.
