When you have a 1 hour meeting that turns into a 6 hour event you…
a. take lots of extra bathroom breaks and play games on your iphone while in there to help pass the time.
b. make up 100 new ways in your head to cuss out the people who are making you stay there that long.
c. go to your happy place… what meeting?!
d. eat great food, laugh (a lot), cuddle up on the couch with your significant other, and make great friends.
Well lucky for us, our job is awesome so the answer during our meeting with Megan and Derek was “d”.
OK, so it wasn’t just a meeting. It was a meeting/engagement session/tour of their new house/dinner date. If we didn’t have to get up early the next morning and drive to L.A. I think that a midnight movie might have been tacked onto all that as well!
Before I continue on, let me just say that Megan and Derek are freakingfantastical (yes, that is one word and yes, to me, it is also a real word) people and we loved every second of hanging out with them… and it wasn’t just because they shared their wine and fed us multiple times either!
Look how much fun they are… who wouldn’t love them?!
Megan and Derek bought an older house and have completely gutted it and managed to turn it into a masterpiece of coolness!
There are a few things they kept from the original design of the house, but only the items with that perfect vintage quality that designers worldwide spend their lives scouring for! If Scottie and I were impulse buyers at all (and thankfully we’re not) we would’ve gone out and bought a house the next day because of how inspired we were by the creativity and beauty they’ve put into theirs.
Unfortunately the house wasn’t entirely finished when we were there so we don’t have pictures of anything other than the kitchen to show you, so you’re just going to have to trust me when I say that Megan and Derek’s house brings out the cool in everyone who sets foot in it!
Creating amazingness is no small feat, so of course that means that Megan and Derek have been spending every waking second working on their house together! So when we asked them where they wanted to go for their engagement session they right away knew that it wouldn’t be realistic to be photographed anywhere in the outside world… so we had “a night in” for photo time and we loved it!
It was so fun to see the excitement on their faces as they showed off their pride and joy to some of their first visitors (I thought Megan was going to cry when I asked to use their restroom since it was the first time she’s had that request). It was definitely the perfect type of session to represent the intro into this new stage of life that they are entering into together!
Other than working on the house, there is another great past time they share that pulls Megan and Derek out of their front door for a nice break from time to time and that is riding around their neighborhood on their beach cruisers… I sense a photo opp coming on!
I don’t think they could be any cuter together!
We also did a little further exploration to get a few different looks outside the 4 walls of their home. Voila!
(…Scottie’s angle. While Scottie’s shot is unique, I have to point out that mine makes it look like they’re in a glitter storm which is a definite cause for bonus points!).
(We’ve dubbed this one the alien portal shot).
Megan and Derek, thanks for a great night! We will forever cherish our wine and cheese moments with you. You two are wonderful and we couldn’t be happier to work with you and get to be witnesses to all the newness that is now your life!
