JoEllen and Ryan’s creative, hilarious, and sentimental wedding day!

My very favorite thing about JoEllen and Ryan’s wedding was the unbelievable amount of creativity that shone through every aspect of every detail throughout the entire day!  It’s one thing to be ridiculously talented in the creative department…. it’s another thing to know exactly how to apply that to your wedding to make it perfectly represent you.  JoEllen was definitely able to pull it off in a way that most people couldn’t have even come close to.

Everything from the personalized bags for the bridesmaids, cuff links made out of Lego’s, homemade flower clips for her and her bridesmaids hair, and hand painted letters to decorate the cake table and head table… all of it was done by her!  And when I say she made all this stuff, I don’t mean that it was a bunch of stickers and giant rhinestones with Elmer’s glue showing through the sides… I’m talking stuff that looks like Martha Stewart herself made!  It was the kind of DIY things that end up in wedding magazines.  Needless to say, I was beyond impressed! You can see all of these details in the rest of JoEllen and Ryan’s wedding photos.

My other favorite thing was the way the bridesmaids decided to take over when the wedding nerves stress level was beginning to escalate.  They were hilarious.  Whenever they wanted JoEllen to relax and laugh they’d start singing “I’m On A Boat” (a song by comedian, Andy Samberg) which she would inevitably join in on and then she’d start feeling better immediately.  And of course when that song came on later during the reception, everyone went wild. 🙂  The other thing they’d do (including both JoEllen and Ryan) would be to make “that’s what she said” jokes… and I was really impressed with how long they could go on with it (that’s what she said).  It made the day pretty funny… which is very fitting because they’re a very funny couple!

I also really loved how involved some of the older members of their family were.  Not only was EVERYONE dancing… regardless of age, but they also had a lot of special family traditions that the elderly members of their families got to pass on.  It was so cool!  Special songs were sang and speeches were made. It was very much a family affair, that included all family members equally. Everything from the ceremony to the reception had very sentimental, emotional touches to make the day truly special.

So overall, it was a very special day with a fun couple (not to mention a super stunning bride), hilarious people, creative details, and a wonderful family. Thanks for letting us be a part of it guys!

Adrienne & Mike’s Big Day (and the people who helped make it happen)!

This wedding was a unique one for us because not only was this day the joining of two people, it was the joining of a family.  The way they included the kids as often as possible in the events of the day truly represented that this was about more than just romance, it was about the love of a family.  This picture shows the special prayer they had during the ceremony to ask God to bless their new family.

One thing we really want to highlight about this wedding were the excellent vendors we worked with.  The ceremony was held at the Arizona Golf Resort in a special little area designated for weddings.  So it not only had the beautiful, open, expansive green of a golf course, but it also maintained an intimate quality within the walls of the fountain.

Though is was a hot summer day in Phoenix, Arizona, the Arizona Golf Resort made it as comfortable as possible by providing water for all the guests and umbrellas to offer extra shade to those who requested it.  The trees surrounding the wedding area also did a great job of shading and providing relief from the scorching sun (and of course they add that non-deserty look that we always savor as a welcome break from cactus ridden AZ)!  The location provided hotel rooms for the wedding party to get ready in as well as golf carts for transportation during photography so we could get around their enormous property with speed!  We were told there are all kinds of features on the grounds that we never even made it over to, including a fabulous lake!

All the people who work at the Arizona Golf Resort were super helpful and ready to assist us with our every little whim. It makes you kind of feel like a celebrity… or at least like someone on a local newstation or something!  The wedding coordinator at the resort that we worked with (April) was super kind and helpful as well, not to mention eager to go above and beyond in finding ways to make weddings at their venue even more wonderful than they already are (she asked for our opinion on the matter!).

I had to include the picture below in the blog because it totally cracks me up.  They insisted on getting what they called “a graduation” picture.  I love it because it’s so old school 90210.  Graduation photo indeed!

The other vendor we worked with at this wedding who totally impressed us was the wedding planning company that Adrienne and Mike hired to help coordinate their backyard reception (sounds like quite a challenging project if you ask me)!  A Simple Touch Wedding Decor is the company we’re discussing and the star from this company that shone out was the particular wedding planner we worked with, Molly.  We say wedding planner, but she was more like a wedding magician because not only could she do ANYTHING, she did it all with amazing style and class.  And of course, what’s a good leader without an amazing group of supporters who do an amazing job as well.  The entire team at A Simple Touch is outstanding.

I can’t even begin to tell you all the things that A Simple Touch provides.  Everything from wedding planning, to decorations and table cloths, to faux ceilings (I didn’t even know they made faux ceilings)!  Not to mention they do all the work involved with all of that stuff, like set up and tear down.   I mean, just look at these pictures… talk about skillz!  They provide all their own custom wrought iron decorations (like the arch you see in the cake picture below) that can be used for all kinds of things.  They had one giant wrought iron tower with a freaking chandelier in it!  I deem that as an official essential to every cool wedding.  Breanna’s offical seal of approval, now that’s a gift to be treasured! Ha ha, j/k.  But for real, look at these pictures! How cool is this stuff?!!

Out of all the things A Simple Touch does (and does well), their biggest value lies in the fact that they take the burden of the bride’s stress and shoulder it all themselves!  The entire night took on a life of it’s own as dessert trays were shifted in and out, chairs were shuffled, and hor d’oeuvre trays were stocked. All this went on while the couple just smiled cluelessly and danced the night away.  WONDERFUL!!  That’s exactly how a wedding should be!  But unfortunately we see far too many weddings that either begin or end with the bride in tears (and not the good, sentimental kind).  So to avoid makeup smears and smudges ladies, we highly recommend that you check out A Simple Touch and consider using them to be your official stress bearers!  Oh and as a side note, my favorite thing about Molly is that she’s carrying all this stress and she’s TOTALLY chill!  I never thought “chill” and “wedding planner” could go together in the same sentence before.  And this is a very important quality about her because a stressed wedding planner can create a bridezilla out of the most laidback girl, where a chilled out wedding planner can chill out the most high maintenance bride.

So if you haven’t figured it out by now, we want to say thank you to The Arizona Golf Resort and to A Simple Touch Wedding Decor … you guys are amazing!  And if you only hear one thing after reading this blog, hear this… the vendors you hire for your wedding can make or break the entire day!  So do your research, learn what to look for, and spend the money necessary to hire the best in some of these essential areas (even if it means skimping in areas that aren’t as vital)!  You may think you’re saving money, but if you end up with an obnoxious DJ, boring wedding photography, or an unorganized wedding planner… you’ve actually just wasted thousands of dollars!

We’ve worked with a lot of vendors over the years (both good and bad) and we are committed to helping everyone have their dream wedding, so send us an email if you need referrals in any area and we’ll do our best to help you find someone you’ll be very happy with.  Follow in the footsteps of Mike and Adrienne and leave the sucky weddings to the lame people!

Kari + Collin = Love forever!

When we first walked up to the Farm at South Mountain in Phoenix, AZ our first thought was… “are we still in Arizona?”  It looked like a cute little picnic place from a Mark Twain novel or something!  Our second thought was… “and we get to hang out with some of our favorite people all day today!”  We’ve been friends with Kari and Collin for years and we’ve both known them together and apart so we’ve been privileged to watch the people and this relationship grow up to the point of marriage!

(Here’s the beautiful bride, Kari.  She has the most beautiful alabaster skin (the kind that almost no one in Arizona is able to maintain with our sun damaged skin and all that) and her dark hair contrasts it perfectly.  So when I saw the cute little flowers strategically placed in that dark hair, I had to catch my breath she was so beautiful (and I’m sure Collin almost passed out when he saw first her!).)

(It’s so fun when we know everyone in the bridal party because it helps us tailor the pics to match their personalities… plus we know just how crazy they’re willing to get for a photo!  Okay, yeah, we told them to smile and laugh in this picture… but I promise everyone WAS this happy all day!  It definitely fit the “joyful occasion” description you often hear about weddings!)

(Thanks Kari for being willing to risk that white dress on an outdoor picnic table!  We hope you’re more than pleased with the results!!  I love this picture because it looks like a magical, fairy tale forest!  This is DEFINITELY a princess picture. 🙂

070(This picture totally has a classic quality that so reflects this couple.  You just know they’re going to be together forever and this picture makes them look timeless.  I love how it feels like they’re walking off to the enjoy the rest of their lives together.)

Congratulations you guys!  Don’t forget to call us to hang out once you’re all settled in! We love you both!

Barbie shoes, a ground trampoline, and a giggling bride… Erin & Alex’s wedding was great!

One of the first things I noticed about Erin (other than those eyes!) was her sense of style… and there was no shortage of that style at this wedding!  From her lacy vintage dress to her pink Barbie heels… she created a beautiful wedding that represented her perfectly.  Alex wasn’t left out though… his style is soon to be showcased since he’s a graphic designer and he’s going to be designing their wedding album!

The wedding location itself was unique.  It was held at the home of one of Alex’s clients and it couldn’t have been a better location for them.  It was very elegant but it still had a personal home feel… the perfect combination!

And did we mention, he jumps higher than anyone we’ve ever met?!  Just kidding, there was a trampoline built into the ground in the back yard… awesome for fun pictures. 🙂  We should’ve worked harder to convince the bride to try it out!

This is a shot I try to get at every wedding.  I just love the flowing dress layers combined with some fab wedding shoes!  So when I saw her shoes, I knew this wedding had to be the one where I perfected the look I was going for.  And what do you know, it worked!

Erin was one of the smiliest brides we’ve ever had. 🙂 Every time she tried to do a serious picture, she’d bust up laughing instead!  So we figured the best way to get a serious one, would be with her head down.  It did the trick and we now love this one… it’s such a classic pic.  If it wasn’t for the strapless dress, it would be hard to guess what year it was taken and I love that! Vintage is definitely a favorite of both Scottie and I!

Another way to get a picture of Erin not laughing was to have her kiss Alex… apparently she takes her kissing seriously! 😉

We loved working with this couple and we had a great time hanging out with them on one of the biggest days of their lives! Congratulations you guys!

Kelly & Scott’s Big Day!

Here’s a word problem for you…. if 2 people want to get married and 1 person lives in Chicago (where the temperature is 49 Degrees Fahrenheit)and 1 person lives in New York (where the temperature is about 40 Degree s Fahrenheit) and they want to get married somewhere that is around 75 Degrees Fahrenheit, where should they go?  Apparently the answer for Kelly and Scott was Fountain Hills, AZ.  Lucky for us, they chose to get married at Eagle Mountain Golf Club which is one of our favorite places to shoot!  They have unbelievable views of the city, rolling grassy hills, and it’s far enough away from the busy city that it’s quiet and the skies are beautiful…. this is where we get our best sunset shots!  Plus Nic, the guy who plans all the weddings there really knows what he’s doing and we get better pictures because he helps the couple plan the wedding around the photography time. (You can see what we’re talking about if you click to see the rest of Kelly & Scott’s wedding photos).

This is probably my favorite picture we’ve ever taken!!  We have others that are similar, but this one is just perfect!  We were so glad Kelly wore that cathedral veil…. very dramatic!

The groomsmen in this wedding were really fun.  Check out the pictures we took of them before the wedding where they were just hanging out and cracking up the whole time!  I could barely hold my camera steady because they were making me laugh too hard!  But by the looks of this picture, you can tell they know the ceremony is serious business.

You can kind of see that amazing Eagle Mountainview they have for ceremonies in this pic.  It was definitely fantabulous (if that’s not a real word, it will be someday).

So it turns out that the groomsmen weren’t the only fun ones in the bunch.  They seriously had some of the coolest friends.  Most of them flew all the way out here for this and you could tell they were all very close to the couple.  There was a strong atmosphere of love there.  Oh yeah, and man did they know how to have a good time as well!!  Ahem, did I mention that we are available for out of state weddings too? (hint hint to all you fun guests)! 😉0053

Thanks, Kelly and Scott, for letting us be a part of your day.  We loved it!!  Click to see all of Kelly and Scott’s wedding pictures.
