  • We are the Chansons!

We are the Chansons! We are Scott and Breanna Chanson and we live and breathe to tell stories…. We were married in 2005, and as we stood saying our vows at the altar, neither of us could've predicted the incredible story our life together would develop into. Since we began shooting weddings in 2006, we've had a whirlwind of unforgettable experiences. We've shot all over the U.S. as well as internationally. We've gained an invaluable following of loyal fans who have encouraged us to continue on… even through the rough times. We've developed ourselves into teachers and mentors for other photographers and small businesses. We've expanded Radiant by adding a new photography team and creating a home base in both Los Angeles, CA and Phoenix, AZ. Through all this, we've discovered that the two most important things to us are people and their stories. Radiant Photography exists to help us meet amazing people and allows us to tell their stories. We hope you enjoy this shared experience into one another's worlds.

Congratulations Katie & Lawrence!

This was definitely a wedding to remember!  Katie put so much time and attention into planning her dream wedding and I think it came out just perfectly (I hope she would agree).  However, she and Lawrence had quite a few little mishaps that reared their ugly heads in the weeks preceding the wedding, and they handled them with style!0048

The biggest issue being that Lawrence broke his ankle right before the wedding!  I have to say I was very proud of how he handled it the day of!  He did as much as he could from posing for pictures to dancing a tiny bit and he never complained once!  He just put down his crutches and did what needed to be done as if it were no big deal!

The weather was making everyone very nervous as well since it was predicted to be cold and rainy and both the ceremony and reception were outdoors.  All the worries turned out to be in vain because the sky cleared and it ended up being a beautiful day! (Click to see the rest of the photos from this beautiful day!)

I want to give a ton of credit to Katie for how unbelievably beautiful, cute, and personal everything at her wedding was.  Katie LOVED planning her wedding and all the incredible amount of detail that she put into it really showed through when all was said and done!

0069(This is a fortune Katie got over a year ago and she saved it just so she could get this exact picture on her wedding day! Now THAT’S detail… and one eerily accurate fortune cookie!)

00021(Katie bought this paper just to get this picture with the date in it!).

I was also impressed by all the things she either made by hand or had specially made!  Everything from the flower girl’s outfit to the guest favors (Jones soda bottles with one of the engagement photos we took of them on the label).

Everything looked BE-AUTIFUL!  Of course it didn’t look quite as beautiful as the bride did (because lets face it, nothing could look as good as she did)!

Katie, you did an amazing job on every single little thing that was a part of your wedding and I really enjoyed following you via Facebook on this big wedding planning journey.  It was so fun reading all about the highs and lows that go along with such a life changing event and I’m so glad I got to be a part of it all!

0065(More of the details that made Katie’s wedding beautiful).

00031(I’m so impressed with these shoes!  She matched them perfectly with the lime green that was in the rest of the wedding and then added the bling herself!  Anytime someone adds bling to something, I’m a fan!  Good thinking, Katie!).

(We couldn’t miss an opportunity to get a shot of these shoes!).

One thing I really loved, was how personal all the little touches were.  Lawrence is a police officer, so they decided to play that up and make it a big part of their wedding!  Though I loved all the beautiful, sentimental little things that were at the wedding, my favorite wedding detail was the one with a sense of humor… the Mr. Potato Head decked out in his cop gear in the center of a donut cake!  It was hilarious!

Some of the police officers were on duty and couldn’t make it to the wedding, so they decided to fly their helicopter over and yell congratulations over the loud speaker!  That was a first for us at a wedding! And that wasn’t the only time cops showed up at this wedding…

Katie’s parents surprised her with a fireworks show during the reception!

However, some of the neighbors nearby interpreted the loud booms as gun shots and called the police!  When the cops arrived, we all thought they were there to congratulate their co-worker on his wedding day.  It was quite a confusing moment… the cops were confused because everyone was just saying hi rather than asking why they were there, and everyone else was confused as to why they were there once they found out they didn’t know Lawrence.  And when gun shots were brought up, the confusion only grew!  It didn’t take long for everyone to figure it out and start laughing about it though!

I want to say a special thanks to Carrie at Stonecreek Golf Club in Phoenix.  Carrie is in charge of the special events at Stonecreek and she was so wonderful to work with on this wedding!  She’s the perfect balance of fun, friendly, and professional. She makes you feel like you’re her best friend but when things call for it, she quickly steps it up a notch and takes charge of the situation.  Not only is Carrie one of our favorite people to work with, but Stonecreek couldn’t be a better location for a wedding!

It’s a stunning golf course with the Camelback Mountains and Squaw Peak as the backdrop.  The outdoor covered reception area is set up so that it can be tailored well to each individual wedding (and of course Carrie will work to help figure out what that means for each unique couple)!  We recommend that anyone planning a wedding considers Stonecreek Golf Club as the place to have it!

This wedding really was a blast!  With all the great decor, the interesting events, and this great couple… how could it be called anything other than perfect?!

Thank you so much Katie and Lawrence!  You are both awesome people and we had a great time working with you.  Lawrence, seriously thank you for humoring us as we moved you around and posed you despite the pain you were probably in…we felt so bad and we were tempted to say, “ah, forget pictures, you just go sit on the couch and relax!” but I think your bride might have killed us and rightfully so! ;-).  Thank you so much for allowing us into your lives during such a momentous time for you. We’ve really loved getting to know you and we wish you the best!  We hope you LOVED your wedding day and that you are enjoying your first Christmas as husband and wife! We’ll stay in touch with you for sure!

Carrie - Beautiful Wedding!!! Katie did an excellent job with all the colors and special touches. Radiant Photography is so great at capturing all the special moments along the way!

Linzie and Chris: Smiling On a Rainy Day

If you’ve ever been in Phoenix when it rains, you know how everyone goes on red alert the instant the first drop falls.  It’s hilarious how the entire city shuts down immediately!  People get scared, start to panic, and rush home and lock their doors.  God forbid you’re on the road when all this happens!  So when we found out it was going to rain the day we were scheduled to shoot Chris and Linzie’s engagement session, we were like “uh oh, I guess that’s canceled”.

Then we thought about it and we realized that the rest of the country deals with rainy days all the time and the world keeps spinning while people keep working on those days!  So once we found out that Linzie and Chris were down for it, we decided we’d make an adventure out of it and figure out how to shoot in the rain!

So we swung by Target to get some cute umbrellas that would look good in the pics and we found out later they did the same (seriously, we use them so rarely here that you never know where it is or if they work or anything).  We headed over for Heritage Square in downtown Phoenix which ironically the least Southwestern looking area in all of Phoenix (which is what they wanted…no cactus was the rule for the pictures).

Once we added in the rain to the only place in Phoenix with fall leaves, we came out with our least Phoenix looking pictures we’ve ever taken!  And we LOVE them!

That “grass is always greener” thing is totally true.  Photographers in New York are so jealous of the open sky sunset shots we get here and we are always longing for some shots on top of giant buildings with a city view.

That to say, we enjoyed getting pictures that look totally different than our norm.  Well Linzie and Chris, if you wanted to be unique… you definitely succeeded!  We had SO much fun experimenting with you guys (thanks for being good sports). We’re excited to see what kind of unique surprises your wedding will hold for us! 😉

Make sure you check out the rest of Linzie and Chris’s Phoenix, AZ engagement photos session!

A Sweet Party for Morgan’s Sweet 16!

There’s dancing, a cake, decorations, gifts, and Radiant Photography… but no bride?!  Replace the bride with a 16 year old girl, the regular wedding guests with hundreds of high schoolers, wine with Red Bull, and the normal kitchen appliance gifts with posters of Taylor Lautner (that’s Twilight for all you non- teenagers) and you’ve got Morgan’s Sweet 16 Party!

(click to see all the photos from the party)

The set-up was fabulous, the guests were ready for a good time, and the DJ’s were flashing all kinds of lights and turning up the volume.  It was the perfect recipe for the perfect party.

I want to back it up a little bit and tell the story from the beginning…

We showed up early to set up our photobooth and take pics of Morgan and her closest friends getting ready.  It was so fun to hang out with them and hear them talking about all the things they were hoping would happen (or wouldn’t happen for that matter) at the party.

0001(this is her little sister doing her cousin’s makeup).

0005000600070008We took a few posed photos of the girls and then headed out front for Morgan’s big surprise…

0012That’s right, she got a Mustang for her birthday!!

0010Her friends are excited to have a new ride to school!

Once everyone arrived, it didn’t take long for the dance floor to fill up!  The DJ’s were amazing and their set-up was absolutely perfect for this party (and for photos)!

dancing, dancing….

more dancing…

00210025002700280042(I guess that’s more like crowd surfing than dancing)0035

there was a lot of dancing! 🙂 (click to see even MORE dancing photos from the party)

The other bit of entertainment we had there was the Radiant Photobooth!  These people knew how to work it!

(If you were a guest at the party, make sure you fan our Facebook page so you can tag yourself in the photos and use them in your profile.  You can also buy prints here).

A friend of Morgan’s dad is a graphic designer so he made a logo for her party that was all over the decorations, invitations, and our photobooth backdrop.  Definitely cool.

0197(This is the logo on a light they had moving around the dance floor… awesome).

Overall, I’d say this party was a huge success… minus the fire in the pool (that was no one’s fault and was put out quickly!).  Happy Birthday Morgan! Thanks for inviting us to be a part of your big moment… we had a great time and it was definitely a memorable party!  I hope you’re too busy driving around in your new car to even read this blog! 😉

High Fashion Meets Small Town (Abigail’s Unique Session)

It’s not everyday that one of your friends calls and says, “Will you help me trash my wedding dress?”  That’s pretty close to what my friend Abigail said to me after she heard about a session we did near her house in Pine, Arizona where we took a bride into a motorcycle parts yard, a creek, and a pile of fall leaves (all in her old wedding dress) to get some BEE-autiful model looking shots!

Ever since she heard about that session, Abigail (who’s been married 5 years) has been dreaming up her own Radiant Unique Session!

(This is her dreaming up her session… ha ha).

She lives in Northern Arizona and she is very partial to her small town so we wanted to keep her around that area and really capture her loving the beauty she lives for.

At heart, Abigail is a good ‘ole country girl…

…however, she also appreciates elegance and the art of fashion to some degree as well….

… which is why I LOVE the photos that combine the 2!

You can’t beat cowboy boots, a stunning wedding dress, and an old rusty bus (thanks to Mr. Man in Pine who let us pose with his bus!). Not to mention, a cowboy hat with silver stilettos make a statement like none else!

008(To get this shot, we all sat in the truck waiting until the last raindrop fell…. then we shouted “go!” and clamored out of the truck with gear piled in all of our arms to get this shot as quick as possible before the rain came back.  Hey, it worked!)

Abigail is one of those rare people who really does appreciate the small things in life (unlike most of us who just TRY to notice and love those things) and the big things she cares about are the things that help other people and improve the world around her.  In other words she is a very caring, very awesome, beautiful, intelligent, thoughtful, woman with a variety of interests!  So our job…. to capture all of that in a few photos!

There is no way I could make it through this blog without talking about a few water mishaps.  Here’s the story… you have shirtless Scottie carrying the bottom of a wedding dress (to keep it from getting wet at the wrong time), holding his camera in the air with his other hand, all while praying he doesn’t fall! Camera insurance is nice, but it’s not really something we’re excited to test out or anything!  (By the way, he did stumble once and pulled one of those arms swinging like propellers – almost fall maneuvers… and apparently the propeller arms did the trick because he stayed up!) All that to get over to this mini waterfall with her dress still intact!

Abigail was oh so brave throughout the whole thing!  That first step into the water was a tough one, everything in you just screams “NO!!!  What are you doing?!  You have a wedding dress on and that’s not a creek-friendly outfit! ”  It’s a very counter-intuitive thing to do and I could see the inner struggle in her face as she put her first foot in!  It’s like watching $100 bills fly out the window! Although by the end of it all, her dress was totally fine, it just needed to be dry cleaned and it would be good as… almost new!

(It was right about this time that it was hard to believe we were still in Arizona!  When you think the southwest, you don’t usually picture turquoise colored water!  So for all you east coasters who think people in Arizona still ride to work on horses, bathe in tiny puddles of any muddy water we can find, and have front yards made out of tumble weeds…. now you know that’s all a lie (or at least the part about the desert not having water is)!)

This picture takes me right back to 5 years old when I dreamed of being a fairy princess in a fairytale forest (the kind without goblins in it of course), surrounded by tiny talking animals.  But as we all know, fairytales are make-believe… or at least I know that now after being in that forest and realizing it was full of GIANT spiders that crawl in the layers of her dress, rocks that cut your feet, and sticks that tangle up your hair!  Of course Abigail totally embodies the modern day fairytale where the princess is excessively brave and can take on major social issues that are much bigger than a few little ‘ole spiders! So I guess it still works.  (I was seriously stifling my screams as I saw quarter sized spiders all stuck up in her dress and she just calmly brushed them away and kept laying there).

One of the best things about this session was that Abigail decided to have her husband dress up for some shots so that she could get a few pictures that she feels like she missed on her actual wedding day. We really like the idea of helping people re-create their wedding years later so they can get some great, modern looking pictures that they love (which works great if you had a poodle perm back in the day that makes you too embarrassed to show your wedding pictures or something like that)! That’s why we offer the Unique Session as an item separate from our actual wedding packages, so that anyone (no matter how long ago you got married) can take advantage of a chance to have Radiant wedding pictures… and to give every girl a chance to be a bride again!

We also offer Unique Sessions in our Unique Wedding Package to give our couples a chance to relax on their wedding day and spend time with their guests rather than spending an hour or more doing pictures after the ceremony. Plus Unique Session pics turn out way better than actual wedding day ones because we have more control over lighting, time of day, setting, etc.

Thank you soooo much Abigail (and Andy) for giving us the chance to go out and get creative with our art.  This was such an unforgettable time for us and we are so glad we got to experience it with such good friends!  Thanks for trusting us to do this…and believing us that it would be worth getting your dress a little dirty!  Thanks for not giving us funny looks when we asked you to do awkward poses or sit in front a dirty bus…. we hope you now get to see what we saw in those moments!  Oh yeah and most of all, thanks for not screaming and freaking out when there were spiders in your dress… I would’ve started crying. 😉  Love you both!

Suzanne and Lee’s Engagement session!

If there’s some kind of secret sign or code that people who ride motorcycles have, either I don’t know it or Lee doesn’t use it because when I first met him I saw nothing to indicate that after Suzanne, his motorcycle is his second love!  In fact, riding around on their Harley is one of their favorite activities to do together!  That’s why we decided to include it in their engagement session!

The other thing they enjoy doing together is talking walks around the beautiful lake in their neighborhood!  So we met them at their house and shot around the areas they spend a lot of time at.

We wanted to catch them doing the things they normally do together so that their photos really represent them both as individuals and as a couple.  We figured that having them sit around in the park they spend so much time walking through would help them feel comfortable so they could relax and be themselves in front of the camera.  I think it worked!

003500340050(They’re taking dance lessons for the wedding, so we had them practice some of their moves for us!).

Lee and Suzanne, thanks for inviting us to your home and for spending time hanging out with us!  We are so excited for your wedding with a view! 🙂
