  • We are the Chansons!

We are the Chansons! We are Scott and Breanna Chanson and we live and breathe to tell stories…. We were married in 2005, and as we stood saying our vows at the altar, neither of us could've predicted the incredible story our life together would develop into. Since we began shooting weddings in 2006, we've had a whirlwind of unforgettable experiences. We've shot all over the U.S. as well as internationally. We've gained an invaluable following of loyal fans who have encouraged us to continue on… even through the rough times. We've developed ourselves into teachers and mentors for other photographers and small businesses. We've expanded Radiant by adding a new photography team and creating a home base in both Los Angeles, CA and Phoenix, AZ. Through all this, we've discovered that the two most important things to us are people and their stories. Radiant Photography exists to help us meet amazing people and allows us to tell their stories. We hope you enjoy this shared experience into one another's worlds.

Paige and Josh celebrate the wonderful Robotron (By Scott and Breanna)

I have to admit, when Paige and Josh called us to do a photo session with them and their dog Robotron, I wasn’t too happy about it.

I know, that’s weird right!? Usually I (Breanna) start off a post by saying something like “When Paige and Josh called us to do a photo session with them, I was so excited that I actually squealed out loud and had to run to the bathroom because I was going to pee my pants!”.

Well you have to understand, this session was not a normal session. The reason Paige and Josh wanted to have the session is because they’ve recently received some bad news about Robotron’s health so they wanted to capture these last moments with their family all together while they could.

Now you know why I wasn’t super excited to get this call from them. It was different than the normal celebratory photo sessions we typically do to commemorate important times in people’s lives.

Actually, maybe this session wasn’t different at all! We were in fact commemorating their lives and time together, which is a very celebratory thing!

Robotron was still feeling great so we were able to get some great shots of him and Paige playing together as they’ve been doing since he was a puppy…

… as well as some photos and of the whole family cuddling as they’ve so often done together since Josh entered into their duo and made them a fully unstoppable team.

So really, we’re celebrating…. we’re celebrating all the time these 3 have gotten to spend together.

And we’re celebrating Robotron’s awesomeness. Because not only is his name freaking cool, but he is as well.

He was definitely one of the easiest dogs we’ve ever shot. He gave us some cute and playful moments to work with, as well as some posed times where he patiently sat still while we found just the perfect angle after we’d placed him in just the right lighting.

Believe it or not, most dogs don’t really value the significance of what we’re trying to do or respect the fact that we’re working really hard to make them look their best! But Robotron seemed to sense our desperation to get the money shots, so he kindly obliged and bowed to our whims. Thanks dude.

We truly felt honored to get to be involved in such a special moment in Paige, Josh, and Robotron’s lives. This is a beautiful family and we’re so happy we were able to capture them just as they are now. Thanks Robotron, I hope you know that you’re loved and you’ll be missed. You’re one of the great ones. Good boy.

The Newborn Session of The Next Houdini… Better Known As Landon (by Josh & Kelley)

Imagine that you are a parent to an absolutely adorable silly little girl.

Now, envision adding an darling newborn baby boy to this perfect imaginary life.

Seems too good to be true huh?

Well, for the Smith family, this wonderful scenario is real life.

It’s true!  Jen and Chris have enjoyed being Lexi’s parents for the past four years.

Now, they also have the pleasure of calling themselves this little guy’s mom and dad.

Landon was born in late August, and it’s clear that the entire family is absolutely thrilled with his arrival.

There’s no denying it, this little man is cute!

Apart from being cute, little Landon is also a pretty skilled escape artist. Jen, a swaddling master, would spend a few minutes wrapping him up like a tight little burrito, and he would wiggle his little fingers and arms out within seconds!

Then he would just look up at her and make silly faces as he stuck his little fingers in his mouth.

I’ll say it again:  He. Is. CUTE!  And he’s the perfect addition to this sweet little family!

Jen, Chris, and Lexi, enjoy the newest member of your family, he’s pretty amazing!

Oh, and Landon, we’ll be looking out for you and your future act as, “the next Harry Houdini”!

Macaley's Sleepy Newborn Session (by Josh & Kelley)

You guys remember Kim and Jose from the library-centered maternity session Josh and I (Kelley) did with them right?  Well, just as I suspected, they had an absolutely adorable child.

Dear world, meet Macaley.

Isn’t she just the sweetest?

Josh and I sure think so.  And I’m pretty sure her parents are quite fond of her as well.

Seriously, every time they looked down at her during this session, they would both get huge grins on their faces.  It was the cutest thing!

Not only is Macaley adorable, she’s also an overall awesome newborn.

In fact, when Josh and I showed up for the shoot, Kim and Jose told us that Macaley slept for at least five hours the night before!  Now I don’t have any children, but I’m pretty sure that’s amazing for a newborn!

Even after five hours of sleep, Macaley still snoozed during most of the photoshoot.

Once she fell asleep, Kim said that she’d likely stay that way for a while, as she’s a pretty heavy sleeper.  Boy was she right!  Don’t believe me?  Here’s some proof:

We set her in a basket, and Macaley slept…

We dressed her up in a tutu, and Macaley slept…

We squeezed a little headband onto her head, and Macaley slept…

We took a walk over to the nursery, and Macaley slept.

For reals guys, this girl is a sleeping machine!

It wasn’t until the very end of our photo session that she decided she better wake up and let us know she was done being our model.

Kim and Jose, congratulations!  We’re so excited for both of you as you get to know, and get to love your new daughter more and more in the coming days.  Thank you so much for giving us the honor of capturing some of your first and most precious moments with her.

Multiple babies, mutliple moms, and multiple photos: Mom’s Group photos (by Scott & Breanna)

One day Scottie and I were strolling through the park and we just found all these babies sitting together. They were all the same age and they were just chilling on a blanket together, so we took a picture.

Did that really happen? No, of course not.

What did happen is that our friend Allison (you may remember her and little Vincent from the baby story video we made when they were expecting him!) gave us a call to come and meet up with her moms group for a little photo shoot!

So we all got together and the kids were perfect, smiled, did exactly what we told them to, and were happy the whole time!

Did that really happen? No, of course not.

These are tiny little children we’re talking about people!

Photo day isn’t as easy for them as you might think! You’d have your moments too if everyone around you was poking, prodding, taunting you by holding up toys you can’t have, setting you on the ground before quickly running away, and acting like crazy people for reasons you can’t possibly comprehend!

So taking all the typical photo insanity into consideration, these little ones did incredibly well holding up to it all! Things went very smoothly and everyone involved had a lot of fun!

Did that really happen? Why yes, yes it did.

Kim’s Exciting and Ever So Organized Maternity Session (by Josh & Kelley)

What could possibly be more exciting than expecting your first child?

If you ask Kim and Jose that question right now, they will likely tell you:  Nothing. Nothing is more exciting than that!

You see, these two are expecting their first little one, a girl, next month, and they’re as happy as can be.

When Kim first contacted me (Kelley) about setting up a maternity session, I could feel their excitement, and that was through an email!

Not only was Kim super excited, but she was extremely organized and thorough when it came to planning her session.

After contacting Josh and me about setting up a shoot, she sent me another email that contained three location choices, website links and photos for each location, and photos of her and her husband so that we could see what they look like!

I’ll tell you what, THAT is my kind of email!  With all of that organization and planning loveliness, I knew right away that Kim and I were going to get along just fine.

As soon as Josh and I saw the images for this library location, we jumped on it!  Kim and Jose added it to their location list because they fell in love with its interesting architecture, and who can blame them?  This place is amazing!

Now, if you’re not aware, it is usually the case that photographers (especially those with flashes and a few not so inconspicuous lenses) and public places do not usually mix well.  Knowing this, Kim (being her ever-so-wonderful organized self) called ahead to make sure we would be permitted to take photos inside the library.  To our surprise, they were completely fine with the idea!

Josh and I were so surprised by this, that we showed up to the location extra early just to double check on the whole shooting a giant camera in-doors thing.  Not only were they okay with it, they LOVED the idea and were genuinely excited about it!

The four of us were excited about it as well, and for two main reasons:  Awesome photos AND air conditioning!  That’s pretty much hitting the mother-load when you’re doing a July photo session in Phoenix, AZ with a mother-to-be.

Kim and Jose, you guys are absolutely amazing, and with so many things working out perfectly in our favor, Josh and I are pretty sure that this maternity session was simply meant to be.

We had a blast quietly sneaking around the library with you, and we can’t wait until August when we get to meet your sweet little girl, and maybe read her a book or two.
