  • We are the Chansons!

We are the Chansons! We are Scott and Breanna Chanson and we live and breathe to tell stories…. We were married in 2005, and as we stood saying our vows at the altar, neither of us could've predicted the incredible story our life together would develop into. Since we began shooting weddings in 2006, we've had a whirlwind of unforgettable experiences. We've shot all over the U.S. as well as internationally. We've gained an invaluable following of loyal fans who have encouraged us to continue on… even through the rough times. We've developed ourselves into teachers and mentors for other photographers and small businesses. We've expanded Radiant by adding a new photography team and creating a home base in both Los Angeles, CA and Phoenix, AZ. Through all this, we've discovered that the two most important things to us are people and their stories. Radiant Photography exists to help us meet amazing people and allows us to tell their stories. We hope you enjoy this shared experience into one another's worlds.

Jessica and Jack’s Charmingly Cheerful Wedding (by Josh & Kelley)

Typically, Kelley writes the blog posts for our shoots, but I (Josh) insisted on taking this one. The reason being that the bride is someone very special to me: my cousin! Not the kind of weird cousin that you avoid at family reunions who always smells like pickles mind you, but the kind of cousin that you were best friends with growing up.

Jess is a few years younger than me, a few inches taller (which drove me nuts as a kid), and a whole lot more amazing. The first time we were in a wedding together was 1997. We looked like this:

I’m the good looking guy in the center and Jess is of course the tall one on the right. She looked a little different at this wedding.

The fact that Jess is family meant that Kelley and I truly had a blast shooting this wedding. It’s not often that all our favorite people come to work with us!

Now, despite the fact that I was certain there wasn’t a guy on the planet worthy of my awesome cousin, Jess was able to find the perfect, Josh-approved guy: Dr. Jack.

Jack is a recent medical school graduate and hands down one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. I soon found out though, underneath that friendly smile, Jack has a dark side.

Fortunately, he only uses his dark powers on wayward ushers. In the end, they all decided that staying on Jack’s good side was the way to go.

The happy couple chose Noah’s in Chandler as their venue, an awesome place made even more brilliant by the bright, primary colors Jess chose for her bridesmaids.

Jack and Jess are pretty stylish people (it runs in our family), and this was reflected everywhere you looked on their big day.

From amazing, interactive decorations to slick fashion (including a wedding dress made by the mother of the bride), this wedding had it covered.

For me, it was one of those days that went by in a blur. Before I knew it, my little cousin, who I still see as an eight year old in my head, was walking down the aisle, saying her vows and getting married! Kelley’s face was soaked with happy tears, I was bursting with pride, it was hard to remember that we were there to take photos and not just enjoy the wedding!

I’ve known Jess from the day she was born, and though she smiles incessantly, I’ve never seen her beam quite like she did in the moments after officially becoming Mrs. Londeree.

That smile is an infectious one and caught on quick. Soon the whole wedding party was cheering them on.

Sometimes, corralling a large wedding party and getting them to all look happy on cue can be quite the chore. Not on this day. The happiness you see here is 100% all natural. They were all just that much fun to be around.

Though the people in the wedding party were phenomenal, Kelley and I couldn’t resist whisking Jack and Jess away to a secluded location for a private session.

Amazing right? And you thought there were no trees in the desert. Obviously, we found a few.

I could’ve stayed there taking photos all night, but Jess and Jack were excited to get back to their friends and family at the reception. After they assured me there would be plenty of delicious food, I gave in.

Despite the fact that I’m an introvert who hides behind a camera whenever possible, my family definitely knows how to party.

Jess and Jack, thanks so much for making us such a special part of your big day. We’re excited to watch you share a lifetime of happiness (and secretly hope that we’ll got lots of game nights out of this deal).

T and Patrick’s Effortlessly Elegant Wedding (by Josh & Kelley)

Way back in the still (somewhat) cool month of December, Josh and I (Kelley) met with a beautiful bride to be and her mother in a local coffee shop.

Both of these ladies excitedly told us about the plans for the bride’s wedding day, and we all seemed to click right away.

They were excited, we were excited; it was clear, Radiant Photography was a total match for this wedding!

That bride was the one and only T.

At the time, both T and her fiancé Patrick were living out of state as they BOTH attended medical school.

Yes friends, they planned an out of state wedding and learned how to save lives all at the same time!

Anyone who has ever done either one of these two things separately can surely attest to the feat it must be to pull them off simultaneously!

Fast forward just a few months (and quite a few degrees in the fahrenheit scale) and T and Patrick are now doctors AND man and wife!

Their wedding took place at the beautiful Paradise Valley Country Club, and it was a perfect day from start to finish!

The best way to describe the feeling of the day was “effortlessly elegant”.

From the girls getting ready…

To saying “I do”…

And dancing the night away in the ballroom…

(The awesome live band, Sapphire Sky, helped everyone get their dancing shoes moving!)

Everything flowed flawlessly and felt gracefully chic, while still encompassing a laid-back and stress-free vibe.

To put it simply, it was perfection.

Doctors Patrick and T, thank you so much for letting us be a part of your story!

Congratulations on your wedding, your graduations, and the amazing life you have ahead of you!

Priscilla - Your photography is beautiful! And I’m in love with Tua’s dress. Do you know who designed it?

June 20, 2013 - 10:01 pm

Kelley - Hey Priscilla,
Thanks for your comment, and for your compliments! Tua and Patrick’s wedding day really was beautiful! They did such a great job putting it all together. I agree that Tua’s dress is amazing! She’s told me that it’s called the Edan and it’s by Jenny Packham.

Thanks so much!

Paige’s Fashion-Filled Photo Session (by Josh & Kelley)

Some of you may not know this, but I (Kelley) am a huge fashion enthusiast. I’m not talking high-end runway fashion (although that stuff can be super fun to follow). Nope, the kind of fashion I’m referring to is everyday style. I love the idea of mixing and matching colors, patterns, and textures to create new and unique outfits that not only look good, but also work, function, and fit into everyday life.

In fact, I love this idea so much, that I blog about it occasionally.

That being said, you can bet your buns I was excited when we heard that Paige was interesting in booking a photo session to help kickstart her up and coming fashion blog! It seems Paige and I have a common love for mixing and matching to create new looks, and Paige enjoys helping others do so as well. So she’s started her very own blog to share this passion of hers with the world.

I can easily say, without a doubt, that this is one blog that I’ll be reading on a regular basis. Just check out this little lady’s outfits and try not to confess how in love with them you are. It’s not possible!

In fact, I tried… And I failed.

We went through 17 different outfits on the day of Paige’s shoot, and each time she came out with a new one on, I had to comment on how cute it was/ask her where she bought everything/try not to steal her accessories right off of her.

It got to the point where we had to apologize to Josh and promise not to talk for a minute so that we could take a few photos!

More often than not, when Josh and I book a portrait session, people are our focus. Whether they be family members, friends, fiancés, or spouses, we’re usually using our cameras to capture their emotions and tell the stories of where they are in their lives at the moment.

In order to tell the story of this part of Paige’s journey, we needed to switch gears and focus on something new: Her outfits. Honestly, because I’ve been creating fashion posts for a while, and Josh has so graciously been my fashion photographer (thanks Josh), this is something we’ve been practicing for quite some time now.

We spent most of our time focusing on Paige’s clothing and accessories, but, when you’ve got somebody as beautiful at Paige in front of your lens, it’s impossible not to focus on the woman behind the fashion choices now and then.

Thanks so much for letting us help you start this fun new part of your life Paige! Know that I’ll be stalking your blog constantly. Oh, and if there ever comes a time where I’m forced to swap closets with someone, I’ll be knocking on your door for sure!

Matt and Rachel and their/our neighborhood engagement session (by Scott & Breanna)

Los Angeles is the kind of city that has something for everyone. As photographers, Scottie and I feel that one of the best things it offers us is amazing locations to shoot!

It has everything from the beach, to the lights of downtown, to famous landmarks, to beautiful flowers and greenery, to spacious and mountainous hiking trails… whatever you want in your photos, there’s a good chance that Los Angeles has it.

With so much to choose from, it can be quite a chore sorting through your many options and trying to pick a location to shoot at! So when our neighbors, Rachel and Matt started planning their engagement session, we all decided to keep things simple and just stay in and around our own neighborhood of Venice Beach!

And why not?! We have more options than we could ever possibly squeeze into a single session, all right here! We have the famous Santa Monica pier…

…the beach….

…gorgeous flowers and open fields…

… and the unique look of the California Venice canals.

What more could you ask for in a photo session location?!

Well there is one thing we could’ve asked for and didn’t get and it’s something that you almost always find in Southern California… SUN!

It was a cloudy and gloomy day, but we decided to go with it and make the best of it, which actually created a cool effect and made our photos look a little different than they would’ve had we gone with the typical sunny SoCal look!

Hopefully they’ll get all the sun they need at their June wedding in upstate New York… and if not, there’s always the chance for a fantastic Unique Session after their wedding once we’re all back in “sunny” California!

(Like our Facebook page to be the first to see Matt and Rachel’s wedding pictures when they go up!)

Sun or no sun, one thing is for sure, and that is that we’ll have a blast capturing this awesome and exciting moment in time for Matt and Rachel. How could we not? Getting to work with our good friends is one of the perks of our job that we love the most! Can’t wait for your wedding guys!

See you in June of 2014… or just later this afternoon when you take your dog out for a walk I guess.

Amy & Anthony’s wedding, where 1+1= 3 (by Scott & Breanna)

Is there anything better than being a part of a wedding for a family member you love?!

Through the window

Florence Windmill Winery Wedding

Well yes, there is one thing that’s even better than that and that’s watching a wonderful little girl get a new family.

Amy and Anthony’s wedding contained both of those amazing aspects! Amy is my (Breanna’s) cousin and I’ve had the privileged of watching Amy grow up through the good and the bad in life, work so hard at being the best mom around, and struggle to find the perfect man to be a part of her and her daughter Tatum’s life.

And I can tell you, it was more than exciting to see the results that came about once Amy and Anthony found one another and began the process of forming a family together as they prepared to head down the aisle to make it official at their Florence Windmill Winery wedding.

(Like our Facebook page to tag yourself in some of the photos!)

I’ve been to A LOT of weddings at this point, but I have yet to see a wedding more emotional than this one was for every single person in attendance.

People who are normally pretty even keeled emotionally… cried at this wedding. People who are not sure what they think about the institution of marriage…. cried at this wedding.  The tons of people who always cry at weddings… cried at this wedding.

Of course myself who has been a part of Amy and Tatum’s lives since they were both born… cried at this wedding. I think even Mr. Manly Man Scottie will even admit to shedding a tear or two!

There was just no way of getting around the water works as you watched Tatum head up to the alter to join Amy and Anthony for a sand ceremony and family prayer.

And just as you began recovering from the initial tear flow, the reception started and Tatum got on the microphone for her speech congratulating Amy and Anthony… and the tears started all over again.

Then right when you’d finally fixed all your smudged eye makeup after the speech, Tatum and Anthony got up for their “new father daughter dance” right after Amy and her dad had their dance… and the tears started all over again!

Of course, these weren’t sad tears running down all of our faces, they were tears that were moved by joy. And as the night went on, the joy spilled over more and more as it moved from our tear ducts to our dancing feet.

It couldn’t be contained. This was one group of crazy happy people!

And Scottie and myself were so happy to be right in the mix of it all.

Amy and Anthony, it was such an honor to be not just family members at your wedding, but to be involved in capturing all your memories as well. Thanks for trusting us with such an important task, it means the world to us.

Congratulations again on your wedding, we can’t wait to see where the 3 of you go from here!
