  • We are the Chansons!

We are the Chansons! We are Scott and Breanna Chanson and we live and breathe to tell stories…. We were married in 2005, and as we stood saying our vows at the altar, neither of us could've predicted the incredible story our life together would develop into. Since we began shooting weddings in 2006, we've had a whirlwind of unforgettable experiences. We've shot all over the U.S. as well as internationally. We've gained an invaluable following of loyal fans who have encouraged us to continue on… even through the rough times. We've developed ourselves into teachers and mentors for other photographers and small businesses. We've expanded Radiant by adding a new photography team and creating a home base in both Los Angeles, CA and Phoenix, AZ. Through all this, we've discovered that the two most important things to us are people and their stories. Radiant Photography exists to help us meet amazing people and allows us to tell their stories. We hope you enjoy this shared experience into one another's worlds.

Chloe’s Beachy Senior Session (by Scottie & Breanna)

I’m not sure what Chloe’s final graduating GPA will be, but I do know for a fact that she’s smart.

How do I know? Because she decided that having her senior photos taken on the beach in 70 degree weather was better than getting them done in her hometown in Arizona where it was 115 degrees!

See? She’s smart!

It actually was a fantastic idea! Chloe grew up vising San Clemente with her family each summer, so what better place to capture the memories as she moves on towards leaving her childhood behind?

The location also worked out well for us (Scottie & Breanna) since we did senior sessions for Chloe’s brothers when we lived in Arizona and now that we’ve moved out to California, we couldn’t have been happier to have her follow us out here for her session!

As you can see, my suspicions about Chloe’s high intelligence being reflected in her location choice, are correct. Because we got some AMAZING shots that only a Southern California beach can give you!

Along with those shots, came some great memories of times along the San Clemente pier captured!

Not to mention the one especially amazing memory of the trip out there that stands out above the rest because it was the time she had her senior photos taken!

Chloe, we hope you enjoy every second as you finish out your high school experience and head off towards new adventures! We are so happy you chose to do your session in California and that we got to be a part of it! Good luck on all you do in the future… especially on those volleyball skillz!

We look forward to seeing all the places you’ll be heading off to!

Brianna’s Phoenix Senior Session (by Josh & Kelley)

Right now, you may be thinking to yourself, “Josh and Kelley, what are you thinking? August is a weird time for a senior session… Didn’t school just start?” And, if we were discussing a Phoenix senior, you would be right.

If she lived in Phoenix, this girl would be busy running around buying school supplies, finishing up the summer reading that she had put off for almost three months, and trying to figure out her new class schedule.

This little lady does not, however, live in Phoenix. Nope, she lives in my (Kelley’s) beautiful home state of Washington. More than that, she lives in what used to be my home.

Radiant readers, followers, and fans, meet my sweetest and littlest sister Brianna.

Schools in Washington don’t start back up until September, so Brianna still has a few more glorious weeks of summer. Lucky for me and Josh, she decided to spend one of those weeks with us here in Phoenix.

While she was here we had game nights, ate way too much junk food, poked fun at Josh for being a meat-eater who was officially outnumbered by vegetarians in his own home, researched college and scholarship applications, and hung out and shopped with our other sister and her kiddos (aka our super adorable nieces and nephew).

In the midst of all that, we decided it would be a perfect time for us to take Brianna’s senior photos. She had been talking to Josh and me about this for a while, and we thought it might be fun for her to trade in her normal pine tree backdrop for some palm trees, making her photos a little “different” and that much more special.

I’ve got to tell you, taking these photos was a little mind-blowing for me.

I swear that I was JUST getting excited about her first day of kindergarten and asking her to pose with her Powerpuff Girls backpack.

Yes Brianna, yes I DID just put that picture up on the Internet for the world to see. You can thank me later.

Powerpuff Girls aside, I love the snot out of this little sister of mine, and she’s definitely somebody that I’m proud to call family.

Best of luck on your senior year Brianna! Josh and I are super proud of you and we know you’ll do great!

Erin and Alex were with us from the beginning (by Scott & Breanna)

When Breanna and I started Radiant Photography all of those years ago I knew it was such an honor to be a part of the beginning of peoples lives together. What I didn’t know was what a blessing it would be to watch the marriages grow into families. This is never more apparent to me than when one of our past wedding couples call us to do a family photo session. A few weekends ago we got to do just that with Erin and Alex who’s wedding is one of the very first that we photographed as Radiant Photography.

Their wedding day was so much fun, here is their wedding blog to prove it …and the fun continues with the addition of their beautiful daughter, Kami!!!

One of my favorite parts of editing sessions like this is to see all of the different expressions we can get out of these kids and Kami did not disappoint!

Thank you Erin and Alex for allowing us to be a part of your lives and your family’s story.

The Van Hofwegen’s Family Legacy Photos (by Scott & Breanna)

How do you tell the story of a family?

I mean, really tell it. How do you contain and explain all the memories, moments, and magic that comes with a group of people who are connected in such an intricate way?

You can try to write down all you remember, you can do your best to pass on the stories, but does that really capture it?

That’s a difficult question with a challenging answer. But there’s one thing I do know- photos definitely help fill in the gaps to the story.

Which is especially true when it comes to a family with as strong of a legacy as the Van Hofwegens have. Theirs is a family consisting of two parents and their four boys who began visiting Mission Beach in San Diego each summer when the kids were younger.

They continue that tradition to this day with the addition of the boys’ own new family members whom they have brought into the picture (both figuratively and literally!).

So they decided they needed some photos to help tell the story of their family and their many shared memories on Mission Beach. So Scottie and I took on the difficult task of spending a couple of hours with them in an attempt to tell the story of a couple of decades!

After spending even a tiny bit of time with them, there are a few things we saw that seem to be consistent parts in this family’s story from year to year. For one, I’m guessing that every year there are some epic cousin playtimes that happen.

I think you could also say that there will be some inevitable cuddly moments.

Of course, there are plenty of memories made when the grown ups get in on the action as well!

Then there’s the beach…

…and bike time…

… and playground time!

It’s these small pieces, combined with what happens when 18 people share a house, that leads to some intense, joyful, momentous, and wonderful moments that build on each other over the years.

If you had talked to Scottie and myself before the shoot, you would have found that we were a little nervous about not only capturing such an incredible family legacy, but also about working with that many people at once… including 8 kids who are under the age of 8!

However, it wasn’t long before we fully forgot our fears and enjoyed our playtime!

I can’t even begin to tell you how fun it was to run around the playground and do whatever we could to push the kids to have as much fun as was humanly possible!

(The photo above is a picture of “as much fun as is humanly possible”).

Having so much fun with kids that their smiles turn to belly laughs, is what I’d call a good day at the office!

So thanks to the Van Hofwegen family for trusting us with such an important job as capturing your family memories and telling your story. I hope you had as much fun doing it as we did!

Lisa and Ted’s Vacation Engagement Session (by Scott & Breanna)

When we (Scott and Breanna) first met Lisa and Ted as they were planning their California wedding, we couldn’t believe that we met them in California, yet we were all from Arizona!

“That’s perfect!” we cried, “we can do your engagement session when we head back to Arizona to shoot our next wedding there!”.

(You can probably tell from the BEACH photos that an Arizona engagement session wasn’t actually what happened!).

When a very sick Lisa called to cancel on the day we were supposed to do their AZ shoot, I think we were all a little bummed that our coincidence didn’t prove to be as perfect as we’d thought.

But sometimes things that seem like a bummer at first, can end up being good, right?

At least, that’s how it went with Ted and Lisa’s engagement session! We were disappointed we had to cancel our AZ shoot, but it turned out to be an awesome thing in the end, as Lisa and Ted tossed out their dreams for a desert engagement session in the hopes of capturing a beach one instead!

So they headed back out to Southern California to see us and get the photos they’d been so excited about!

And it just so happened that the new session date we chose had one of the most gorgeous sunsets EVER!!!!

Isn’t it amazing?!

That’s why I say I’m glad that our original session plans didn’t work out… not only did Lisa and Ted get a trip out of it, but we also got some of the most incredible sunset photos possible!

Thanks Lisa and Ted for being so flexible as we tried to make this session happen! I think it was worth your trip and I hope you agree!

See you on the big day!
