  • We are the Chansons!

We are the Chansons! We are Scott and Breanna Chanson and we live and breathe to tell stories…. We were married in 2005, and as we stood saying our vows at the altar, neither of us could've predicted the incredible story our life together would develop into. Since we began shooting weddings in 2006, we've had a whirlwind of unforgettable experiences. We've shot all over the U.S. as well as internationally. We've gained an invaluable following of loyal fans who have encouraged us to continue on… even through the rough times. We've developed ourselves into teachers and mentors for other photographers and small businesses. We've expanded Radiant by adding a new photography team and creating a home base in both Los Angeles, CA and Phoenix, AZ. Through all this, we've discovered that the two most important things to us are people and their stories. Radiant Photography exists to help us meet amazing people and allows us to tell their stories. We hope you enjoy this shared experience into one another's worlds.

Kim and Will’s Pasadena Engagement Session (by Scott & Breanna)

When you think of Pasadena, CA, you probably think “Rose Bowl”. Or maybe if you live nearby, you might think about their cute little downtown area. Yeah that is pretty much all we thought about when Kim and Will suggested doing their engagement session there.

However what we actually found were all the things we DIDN’T think of! We didn’t think “City hall”….

… or “greenery”…

… or “bridges”…

… but from now on that’s exactly what we’ll think of when we think of Pasadena, because we couldn’t have been happier with the things we found to shoot there!

Scottie was like a kid in a candy store when we started exploring the area before the shoot! In fact, we found way more there than we even had time to shoot… unless Kim and Will would’ve been cool to shoot for a week straight, non-stop!!! But I doubt it since they do have jobs to get to after all!

I mean, we could’ve actually kept shooting that long because we had a great time with them and they were such an easy couple to work with! I loved when we would leave them standing by themselves and they would just immediately cuddle up to one another and start smiling and laughing!

It’s easy to see this is a couple who is made for each other and we couldn’t be happier to be shooting their wedding soon!

(like our Facebook page to be the first to see when their wedding pictures go up!).

Kim and Will, thanks for having fun with us and for giving us the freedom to drag you around exploring everything! We had a great time with you guys and can’t wait to hang out again… on your WEDDING DAY!!!! See you then!

Carrie and Doug’s Hawaiian Wedding (by Scott & Breanna)

Carrie, Scottie, and I (Breanna) grew up together.

No, not in childhood but in careers!

We first met Carrie when we were a newbie photography company and she was working at a golf course that had weddings on the side. About the time that our company was growing by leaps and bounds, Carrie moved on to work at a wedding and event only venue. And as our company really got into it’s full swing, Carrie moved onto her current job at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel working in weddings with a whole team of people around her to help!

The cool thing about our side by side careers, that made changes and evolved simultaneously, is that we’ve gotten to work together much longer than we dreamed possible!

So after our many years spent with Carrie, hearing about her life as a single girl as we stood alongside the newly happily married couples we’d worked with together, you can imagine the doubt Scottie and I had when we heard there was a new man in her life!

I mean, who could really be good enough for Carrie, you know?!

Luckily, we soon found out that Doug is!

And I’m not just saying that because they flew us to Hawaii to shoot their wedding…

…I’m saying it because it really deserves to be said!

It has been so fun watching Carrie grow and change not only in her career, but as a person. And now we can’t wait to see what changes are in store for her now that she’s partnering up with Doug to form an amazing team!

Carrie and Doug, we can’t wait to see what’s in store for you next and we couldn’t have been happier to be a part of such an incredible moment in your life (and again, NOT just because it was in Hawaii!).

Thank you for being such a great couple to work with, for loving and supporting what we do as much as you do, and for not freaking out when I called and said I’d be shooting your wedding with a broken arm (and thanks to my cousin, Jeff, for flying from Maui to Oahu to be my extra arm!)! Judging by the pictures we got, I’d say it turned out OK despite lacking full use of all my limbs!

(Tag yourself on our Facebook page to help spread Carrie and Doug’s photos around!)

Congratulations on the wedding… and on the soon to be here baby! Oops! I gave away the secret!

Jake and Stephanie’s Beauteous Backyard Wedding (by Josh & Kelley)

In June, Kelley and I (Josh) had the awesome pleasure of photographing my cousin Jessica’s wedding. Fast forward a few months and now I get to introduce you to yet another one of my favorite people in the world: Stephanie!

Stephanie is Jessica’s younger sister. We all grew up together, running amuck in the far away land of Missouri. In case you missed the awesome throwback photo of all of us from Jessica’s post, here it is:

That’s Steph on the left, me in the middle, and Jess on the right. We could talk all day about my awesome hair and abnormally large ears, but Stephanie is the star today.

Steph is one of those people that you would think only exist as the protagonist in a Jane Austin novel. She’s insanely intelligent, but she never lets her brain speak louder than her heart. She has countless friends and an overflowing social calendar, but will stop the world from spinning to help a single person who needs her.

Oh, and that guy? He’s Jake. The groom. The first time I met Jake, I put him through my own personal acid test by asking myself the same question I always ask when my cousins introduce a boy: is this the type of guy I want to play horseshoes with every Easter and Thanksgiving for the rest of my life? (That’s pretty much how our family works, so it’s an important question!)

With Jake, I decided in the affirmative right away. He has an unmatchable energy and enthusiasm for… well… everything! I’ve never seen the man when he wasn’t bubbling with excitement. Just look at him waiting to see his bride for the first time on their wedding day!

Jake and Steph are an absolutely perfect match. I’m not sure Kelley and I have ever seen two people so thoroughly happy through every single moment of their wedding day. Wedding day stress? Not a hint of it was anywhere in sight.

In fact, the entire day was remarkably relaxed for a wedding. Jake and Steph wanted nothing to do with the typical wedding stress or formality. For their venue, they chose a huge backyard in Tempe, where they invited their guests to bring their favorite drinks and sit on the ground.

True to how Jake and Steph live their lives, the ceremony was heavily focused away from them and towards God. As soon as the bride made it down the aisle, it was time to stop everything and sing a few worship songs. And before any vows were spoken, communion was taken by all.

The relaxed theme stayed through to the reception, where guests dined at custom-built tables made for ground-seated guests, and told stories around fire pits. How great is that?

Obviously, the combined magnetism of Jake and Steph meant that it was a well-attended affair. In fact, when faced with the proposition of choosing their closest friends to be in the wedding party, they chose almost twenty people!

Right after the wedding ceremony, Kelley and I took a stroll around the block with the newly-married couple.

They were both so happy and excited. Jake literally yelled out to everyone we passed, “This is my wife! I’m married!”

While our little post-ceremony walk provided a nice break for them to consider the awesomeness of what just happened, Jake and Steph couldn’t wait to get back to their friends. Dancing, fireside singing, and all manner of joviality followed.

Jake and Steph, we wish you a lifetime of happy years together. We were truly honored to play a small role in your big day, and firmly insist on many, many game nights and coffee shop double dates with us in the future.

Robin and Alex’s Artsy Engagement Session (by Scott & Breanna)

Scottie and I (Breanna), met Robin and Alex when we had just moved to Los Angeles and were at one of our friends’ famous potluck dinners!

It turns out that we actually met them right when they’d first started dating, but we thought they’d been together for years already because they just seemed to fit together so well!

So it wasn’t much of a surprise when we found out they were engaged, and it was quite the honor when they called us to do their engagement photos! Especially in the particularly awesome location they chose!

If you have never been to the Arts District in Downtown Los Angeles, well you are about to wish you had! Especially if you’re the photography or artsy type!

That’s why Alex and Robin chose it for their engagement session!

I mean, how could they not have?!  Amazing old brick buildings….

… the restaurant they went to the night they got engaged…

… and of course giant rats!

I mean it’s a dream come true for you whether you’re an artist looking for a wall that needs some decoration, the creative type who wants to find quaint little cafes,  or just a homeless person looking for a welcoming place to sleep! Whatever your thing is, the arts district has something for you!

Thank you Alex and Robin for giving us the honor of doing your engagement photos!!! We were so happy to be a part of this major moment for you two and we hope that this happy and exciting time in your life is just the first of many more to come! See you at the next potluck!

Lisa and Bob’s Home on the Ranch Session (by Scott & Breanna)

Scottie and I (Breanna) have been photographers for quite awhile now.

…..and yet there was one type of photo shoot we’d never done and didn’t even know existed for that matter….

…animal head shots! So imagine our surprise when Lisa & Bob called us up to do that very thing!

Let me give you a little more background here! Lisa and Bob own one of our all time favorite wedding venues to shoot at…. The Condor’s Nest Ranch, in Pala, California. If you don’t believe me that it’s one of the best wedding venues around, here are some of our photos from weddings there to help prove it.

It’s this amazing ranch up in the mountains that is complete with Lisa and Bob’s amazing vintage collection of just about everything you could want, not to mention a gorgeous green house, old cars, a beautiful barn, and of course… the animals who live there!

So when it came time for Lisa and Bob to get some new family photos done they called us up and then mentioned, “oh yeah, and we’d really love some head shots of the animals if you don’t mind… and we promise we won’t make you do chickens!”

(No, she didn’t lie, there aren’t any official chicken head shots we had to do!)

So we were like, “Um, OK I guess we can do animal head shots?” Well it turns out that we could do it and I must say, Scottie was particularly talented at it!

Of course it helped that we both made a new BFF!

(That was literally the only way Scottie could shoot as long as his new bestie was hanging around… which was always!)

Lisa’s little friend was more on the subtle side… except for when he gave kisses!

But then again that MIGHT have just been a permanent condition!

Besides getting animal head shots, we also got some great photos of Lisa loving their property and all that it has to offer, as well as a few of Lisa and Bob enjoying it together (once he was done with multiple property tours that day since everyone and their mother wants to get married there!).

I could go on and on about how amazing The Condor’s Nest Ranch is, but I think it’s better if I let these pictures and the ones from  the weddings we’ve shot there do the talking!

Lisa and Bob, Congratulations on creating one of the best wedding venues in Southern California and for being so amazing to work with that we can’t get enough of being a part of weddings with you!

Thanks for providing us with some of the most amazing photos of our career…. and now that we’ve done the animal head shots, with some of the most UNIQUE photos of our career!

We’ve loved spending time with the two of you, your staff, your many pets, and of course with your gorgeous patio view! Thanks for giving us the kind of chill, gorgeous, unique, fun, and all round perfect places to spend so much of our time at! We hope to see you there many more times in the coming years!
