Jon, Doris, Jaime, and their new wonderful addition (by Scott & Breanna)

Remember when you were a little kid and old ladies would pinch your cheeks and rave about how much you’ve grown? Well I, Breanna, am officially an old lady now. You’d be one too if you’d spent time with this adorable itty witty face!

I mean, you see this little baby being carried around in a Baby Bjorn or whatever those things are called, and the next day they’re three! How can you NOT start freaking out about how big they’ve gotten when the first thing that crosses your mind is that this kid MUST have been eating magic beans to make her grow, because there’s no WAY you’ve aged as many years as this kid has in the past 3 years!

That’s how I’ve been with poor Jaime. I’ve tried to keep it to myself in order to spare her cheeks, but I still REALLY can’t believe that she’s gotten so big since I first met her as a tiny little baby at the Hawaii wedding we were photographing that her dad, Jon, was a groomsman in!

It didn’t take us long after getting re-acquainted with Jaime to realize that the years that have passed have been 3 very active and energetic years for this family!

The scrape on her chin says it all. She is just an adorable ball of fiery energy to say the least.

Luckily, she has some amazing parents who have no problem being as crazy and childlike as they need to be in order to really enjoy this precious and quickly moving time they have with their little girl at this very energetic stage in her life.

We first re-united with this incredible family to do photos of a very pregnant Doris. And Doris, I have to say, I was VERY impressed with how well you kept up with your little girl, even when you were carrying around an entire additional child in you! You didn’t miss a beat.

And neither did Jon, who apparently has been trained in the ancient art of holding the attention of a 3 year old, because he can hold on to that valuable resource with the best of them!

(Seriously, that’s one committed dad!)

Is there anything that can make a family as precious as this one, even more wonderful?!

Well I do know of one thing….

When baby boy Alton made his appearance into this world, this family went from great to greater.

I mean, look at this guy! He’s already using his awesome expressions to communicate his little personality to his family!

Doris, Jon, Jaime, and Alton…. we are so happy we got to spend so much time with you all over the past couple of months and we are so excited to see how you guys settle into your new roles with one another to create an even more amazing family than you’ve already been over the past years.

Congratulations on this major event, we are so happy we got to be a part of it!

P.S. Good luck at being the great big sister we know you can be, Jaime!

An Extra Special Newborn Session (by Josh & Kelley)

This is a newborn session that’s extremely close to my (Kelley’s) heart.

Want to know why? See that cute baby girl? I’ve known her from the very first second she was born.

She’s my sweet little niece, Audrey.

(My sister’s friends each made Audrey a little block during my sister’s baby shower! Aren’t they adorable?!)

Yup, that’s right, I get to hold and cuddle this little one as much as I want. Try not to be too jealous.

In addition to getting lots of cuddles, I think it’s also safe to say that she’s going to be photographed A LOT!

I mean how could I possibly help myself? She’s pretty much the most adorable model ever!

When my mom came into town to meet and visit with Audrey, I decided it would be the perfect time for her very first photoshoot: a newborn session.

I shared my idea with my sister, and she was camera ready and on the scene in just a couple of hours.

Technically, little Audrey is already a month old (a little older than some of the newborns we photograph).

You see, she was born right around Christmas time, and had some jaundice issues for a while. After she started feeling better, Phoenix started enjoying some rainy weather. Then, when my mom came in to town, we finally had a perfect day to shoot.

We got some sweet shots of baby Audrey…

Lots of photos of momma and baby time…

Pictures of Audrey with her dad…

And we made sure to snap a few grandma snuggle shots as well.

It was so awesome to be able to take photos of my sister with her very first newborn baby, and know that these will be photos that our family will cherish for years to come.

It’s not very often that I get to be on the receiving side AND the photographer side of important family photos. For me, the experience really helped to reinforce the importance of the work that photographers do.

I’m so happy you came to join our family little miss Audrey. And I can’t wait to share these pictures with you again when you’re a little less small.

Vicki and Franz welcome their new family member! (by Scott & Breanna)

Raise your hand if you’re still exhausted from the busy holiday season! OK I know that most of your hands SHOULD be up but you’re actually still too exhausted to physically hold them in the air! Sure we’re all worn out, but I really think that Vicki and Franz beat us all!

They had all the holiday fun to participate in, plus they bought a house, AND had a baby! Now that is a whirlwind of major events.

They not only survived the chaos that major events inevitably bring, but they enjoyed every second of it!

So when it came to picture time for their new little baby, what better place to do it than at their new house with all the things they love surrounding them!?

(quite a view from their porch, isn’t it?!)

As you can see, their 2 dogs are definitely a part of the family, and once you meet them it’s easy to understand why! They were some awesome little pups who NEVER got in the way during the photo session… well, OK, maybe just a couple times, but they were just making sure we got some great shots of them too!

And what would a newborn photo session be without a ride in a car? Wait…what?

At least that’s the case when your parents met while designing cars together! So of course we had to get one or two in there with cars involved!

Overall, it was a beautiful session, on a beautiful day, with a beautiful family, in their beautiful new home.

Thanks to the 3 of you (well the 5 of you, counting the dogs), for helping us have a great session together. I hope the rest of this new year, full of new things, goes as well as your photo session to commemorate them all went!

A Double Photo Session With Friends, Family, and Lots Fury Pals (by Josh & Kelley)

This is the James Family, otherwise known as Josh, Jennifer, and Imani. They’re pretty stinking sweet aren’t they?

Josh (my husband Josh, not the many guy in these photos) and I were lucky enough to take photos for the James family way back when Imani was only 6 months old and could barely even sit up on her own.

(This is from our first session with tiny little 6-month-old Imani.)

Imani has obviously grown quite a bit. Now almost two, she’s moved way past sitting up and is now on to jumping, running, giggling, and riding her tricycle.

Believe it or not, little Imani has only gotten cuter with time.

Ever since that first six-month-old session, Jennifer and I have been throwing around ideas for a second session, but the timing was never quite right.

So this year, when she contacted me and asked about mini-sessions, my heart dropped when I thought about the fact that we wouldn’t be doing mini-sessions this year.

I knew we needed to find a way to get this family in front of our cameras again. So, understanding they didn’t need WHOLE session to themselves, I proposed that the James family split a photo session with a few friends.

Jennifer loved the idea and knew just who to ask!

Meet John, Amanda, and their three furry friends Cody, Abby, and Lucy.

Amanda works with Jennifer and was more than happy to split a photo session with her. The two of them decided on a location, and Josh and I headed over there and spent the first half of the session taking photos of Amanda and John’s family, and the second half talking photos of the James family.

It was a wonderfully busy time; chasing dogs around during the first half of the session, and running after a toddler during the second half. But, it was a BLAST!

We’re so glad that we got to meet the John and Amanda (and their fury family members too). They’ve got to be some of the most laid back and friendly people we’ve ever had the pleasure of photographing. Oh, and with three big dogs (one of them still a puppy) and a baby on the way, you know they’re brave!

Amanda joked that she’s sure once the baby arrives home and starts to cry, the dogs will likely react by crying right along with it, and she’ll suddenly be comforting four rather than one.

All I know is that house likely is, and will continue to be, one full of action and fun! Although, according to Amanda the dogs just laid around the house and slept the day after the photoshoot. Apparently we wore them out!

Josh and I are so glad that this session worked out so well. It was so much fun to do a second shoot with the James family, and meeting Amanda and John was fabulous.

Vincent is 1! (by Scott & Breanna)

So for those of you who have watched Vincent grow up through his Baby Story Video, his 6 month pictures, and his playgroup pictures. You’re going to be amazed to hear that he’s 1 year old already!!!

(Look, he’s got teeth and everything!!)

That’s right, the big zero one! You made it, buddy! And both Scottie, myself, and all our loyal fans have been so happy to be along for the ride!

So where did Vincent’s parents decide to go to capture this momentous occasion?! LONDON!

No not really, that’s just the Santa Monica pier in a crazy cloud of fog that makes it look like London! Now that you’ve got a little feel how cool London would look though guys, you really should considering taking all of us over there for his 2 year old pictures!;-)

We had planned on some sunny beach pictures but when the day for the session rolled around and the fog rolled in with it, we ended up with quite a different feel than what we’d originally talked about!

But that was cool because Vincent’s parents are flexible and we had beautiful light to work with!

So when we headed down to the pier not knowing what to expect, we quickly found out that even in a pretty solid fog we had plenty to work with!

As if Vincent’s variety of facial expressions weren’t enough material for us! OK, well maybe it’s not quite a VARIETY. Last time his new thing was putting his hands on his head, now he’s got the “ooooh” face.

(We seriously got way more “oooh” faces than that! I couldn’t fit them all in here!)

When he wasn’t being startled every few minutes by the roller coaster taking off, Vincent was quite content posing for the camera, practicing that whole walking thing, making strangers feel special by smiling at them, and playing in the sand.

As you can see, it was a busy day for him. He even had his first ride on a Merry Go Round! Of course he got stuck on the little kid horse that didn’t go up and down, but he didn’t care because the hundreds of lights to stare at were worth the ticket price to him.

Thanks to Vincent and his parents for playing London with us, as well as all the other fun activities little V always gets us caught up in (this time he was partial to swinging his hips and shoulders when we’d sing to him).

Congrats on making it a full year, Vincent. Hopefully year 2 will have less stress from so many new experiences, along with more tasty solid foods to try!
