Gina and Jake… the perfect golf course wedding

Every time we get a call to shoot a wedding for someone who works in the wedding industry, we’re especially flattered to be chosen.  So when Gina, who works with weddings at one of our favorite venues (Eagle Mountain Golf Club), called us to shoot her own big day, we couldn’t have been more honored!

Of course the problem with having your own wedding when your job IS weddings is that it’s difficult to sit back and enjoy it while other people run it!

Wedding industry people know WAY too much about what really goes on behind the scenes to be able to be around it and not be handling it all themselves!

(Gina really wanted a shot of the rings on golf tees!).

So whenever Gina tried to take something over, her Eagle Mountain co-workers were awesome about pushing her away so she could go mingle with her friends and family members instead!

(Like our Facebook page so you can tag yourself in some of these photos!).

The groom on this big day, Jake, was doing a much better job of relaxing (not to say he didn’t have a few nervous jitters going on himself) but hung around with his groomsmen, drinking out of their engraved beer steins, and enjoying himself in the hotel room they used to get ready at before heading over to the golf course.

When the time came for their reveal moment, Gina immediately forgot all her wedding planning cares and dove right into the emotions of the moment… it was beautiful.

We were happy that Gina cried during the reveal moment, and Jake during the ceremony so that we were sure to get some emotional shots during both! What can I say? Crying makes for great pictures!

I can understand why Jake got a little misty eyed during the ceremony, it was a pretty amazing moment.

(Her dad praying with her before she walked down the aisle).

It’s one of those times when you just never know how you’ll react until you get there!

At our own wedding I (Breanna), much to my surprise, laughed through out the whole ceremony!  Whatever way the emotions of a wedding day express themselves, you can be sure they’re there and just waiting to bust out of people!

Working on a wedding together is a delicate dance…

…not just between Scottie and I as we are shooting, but between the couple getting married, the wedding planner, the caterers… and anyone and everyone who is involved behind the scenes!

So when you work with someone multiple times, you begin to understand their flow and you develop your own little dance steps that you can eventually pull it off without a single hitch!

That’s why we love working at Eagle Mountain (especially when the bride herself works there!).

Our weddings at Eagle Mountain come together like a finely tuned machine!

Nic Smith, the food and beverage director up there who is in charge of weddings, knows the way we shoot, the amount of time it takes us to do our thing, and how to create the perfect balance of being helpful and yet giving us enough freedom to do our best.

The events we work together with Nic on (and the rest of the crew at Eagle Mountain, who had a lot to do on this particular night since they didn’t have Gina there working!), are some of the smoothest flowing weddings we have!

Nic knows all our favorite spots to shoot at, so he and Gina planned just the right amount of time into the schedule for him to drive us around in a golf cart stopping at all the best places!

Gina and Jake, I hope your wedding was everything you dreamed it would be and that it was the best night of your life!

Congratulations and we wish you both the best!

Friends and family celebrate Hector and Diana’s wedding!

The first thing I think of when I look back on Diana and Hector’s wedding is how freaking BEEEAUTIFUL Diana looked!!

She was so stunning!  I can’t believe Hector didn’t pass out when he first saw her coming down the aisle!

Her hair, makeup, dress… all of it was perfect!

(She also looked incredibly happy throughout the entire day!  She couldn’t stop her smile… it was sneaking out all over the place!).

Don’t worry, Hector, I won’t leave you out… you looked pretty good yourself!:-)

Of course there were other fantastic aspects of their wedding…

…the major one that stands out in my head is how obvious it was that they have really awesome relationships with their family and friends.

Right from the beginning of the day, I got the chance to hang out with all the great people that were involved in the wedding and get to know them a little bit better… the room that Diana got ready in was full to the brim with women up until the start of the ceremony and it was so much fun to watch them interact and listen to their own stories while putting the finishing touches on their makeup!

It was definitely a very fun group and I loved spending so much time with them on such a significant day!

Speaking of their family… Hector’s mom made all the flower arrangements and they were so impressive… she definitely has a talent for it!

A lot of their friends were long term friends who were very invested in Hector and Diana’s lives (the best man told stories about kindergarten in his toast!)…

…and their family was pretty connected to each other throughout the day as well.

(Diana’s two brothers walked her down the aisle).

(The mother son dance).

You can’t beat a day that is full of watching emotional interactions happen among a group of people who care about one another so much!

There was definite genuine love in this group and it was beautiful!

Creative Phoenix wedding photographerThe ceremony itself was a good example of this (by the way, they had Bible readings in both Spanish and English and it was awesome!)!

The officiant was a part of the family and she made the ceremony very personal by including lots of stories about the two growing up.

She spoke of times when their family was there for them and she did a great job highlighting all the beauty in these families that stood out to me so much during the rest of the day.

(I love this one of her and her mom during the ceremony!  I’ll bet that’s a moment neither will ever forget).

It was so fun to get to hear all these stories and to feel like I got to know everyone so much better through the ceremony.

We were so glad our friends Janae and Ron from Tyars Media Videography were there to capture it all on video!

So of course with this many fun people, who have known each other for so many years… the party could be nothing but amazing!

Dancing, laughing, drinking, eating… everyone there maintained permanent smiles on their faces!

Especially Diana and Hector of course!

Thank you Diana and Hector for inviting us into your tight knit community to have the privilege of being a part of your special day!

We truly enjoyed your wedding and we are so happy that the two of you found one another… you seem really perfect together.

New York in the Desert: Chris and Jillian’s Wedding

You may remember a classy little couple named Chris and Jillian who planned a freaking cool “night on the town” engagement session?  (If you don’t, you need to check it out because it’s one of my favorite sessions!).  Well, they’re back and just as glam as ever… which makes perfect sense since it was their wedding day!

While walking to our next photo spot in the desert landscape that surrounds the house they got married at, Scottie looked back at Chris and Jillian and said, “you guys look like a piece of New York got accidentally dropped into the middle of the desert”.

I think that’s the first time I’ve ever thought of a blog title while actually at the wedding (though I guess you could say Scottie thought of it). There couldn’t have been a better description of them (well at least with my limited repertoire of adjectives that are limited to such showstoppers as “cool” and “awesome”).

Since I’m like most girls from the west coast who think 5th Avenue is just a candy bar, there is nothing that sounds more chic to me than saying someone looks like they’re from that wonderful mystical place called “New York”. So just so you know, Chris and Jillian, this blog title is like the highest form of compliment I know!

We showed up to Jillian’s parents’ house (where their wedding was being held) to find Jillian wearing the very look that I wish in my heart of hearts that I could pull off (is it bad to be jealous of a bride on her wedding day?!).  She looked AWESOME!!!!

Chris agreed…

…a lot…

…which made the reveal moment we did before the ceremony one for the reveal moment record books (if such a thing exists) because Chris seriously couldn’t contain himself when he saw his bride.

He was so taken aback by how beautiful she was that he could barely function (sorry Chris, but it’s true).  I was worried for a second that he was going to need a little mouth to mouth resuscitation from his stunning bride… which wouldn’t have helped matters at all of course!

For the rest of the night he kept stopping and asking us if we could believe that a girl like THAT had actually agreed to marry him!

Chris, I hope you know that your reaction to Jillian was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen at a wedding and I happen to think that makes her just as lucky as you since she has a husband who loves her so much!

I did think it was pretty funny that as soon as Jillian saw him, she started breathing better…

…but that as soon as Chris saw her, he started breathing WORSE!

The other cool thing about this reveal moment was that both of their moms were peeking around the corner from a distance and they were both crying up a storm!  I love moms at weddings!

Not to be outdone, the ceremony that shortly followed the reveal moment was great as well!

(I love how her dad’s looking at her as he’s about to walk his baby girl down the aisle).

(There she goes!  Off to greet a whole new world!).

As distracted as we are while running around being photography ninjas during a ceremony, once in awhile we are able to pay attention to what is actually being said, and this time Scottie heard enough of it to say that the talk the pastor (who happened to be one of our old friends… small world) gave was one of his favorites.  I think it was about love or something or other.;-)

After the ceremony…and the few more desert shots we squeezed in real quick afterwards (you know us, if they give us extra time we’ll take it!)….

(Like Radiant’s Facebook page to tag yourself in some of the photos!).

…we headed into a reception that was, true to Jillian and Chris, very laid back and cool.

People hung around eating great food (particularly the homemade Italian cookies that family members made), hanging out, and listening to Jillian’s lil’ bro’s very talented band “Billion Dollar Bailout” play.

It was the perfect little soiree (yep, I do know some fancy words… and thanks to Google, I know how to use them too!) to complete Jillian and Chris’s day.

True to her graphic designer’s heart, this wedding had the touch of Jillian style all over it.  The logo, stripe theme, color scheme, and invitations were all  pieces of her larger unique creation that came together to bring in the overall feel she wanted for her wedding.

Lucky for all those girls out there who aren’t married yet, Jillian offers her custom design services for weddings and has more examples coming very soon!  “Like” her page on Facebook so you can see her new stuff as she releases it… you should totally follow her anyways because “Glas Creative” is going to be BIG!

(How could it not?!  I mean look at her… I don’t think she’s ever touched a single thing that didn’t turn to cool!  She’s just leaning against the side of a catering van here and it somehow looks amazing!)

Jillian and Chris… there is only one way to end this blog that is appropriate and it happens to be the exact same way I ended your engagement session blog….you guys rock.

Period.

Jinny and Paul’s Big Day!

Ever been to Encanterra, a Trilogy Country Club?

Yeah, I had never heard of it either before Jinny and Paul’s wedding.

Though it’s quite a drive to get to Encanterra, as soon as we arrived we found out that it was definitely worth the trip!

Encanterra is not only a beautiful golf course, but it’s also a course with all kinds of unique features that make it stand out above others.

The stone features, waterfalls, and bridges all make it absolutely stunning!

Not to mention, the dust that’s in the air on the edge of town out there makes for AMAZING sunsets!!

Not only were we excited to have this stunning backdrop to take pictures of, but the people who were going to stand between us and the background (Jinny and Paul) are such a cute and happy couple that we couldn’t wait to see their shining faces on this big day!

It was so fun to do their reveal moment and watch how as soon as they saw one another their nerves, fears, and worries melted away as they suddenly remembered the reason behind the whole day.

Once they felt like the stress had evaporated…

…they began to become their normal selves again and they were ready to handle this momentous day together.

They were a team and they were ready for action!

We took some time to take a few photos of them, their bridal party, and their family before we went back to wait behind the scenes for the main event to begin!

(Like Radiant’s Facebook page to tag yourself in some of these photos!)

The ceremony went great and was as beautiful as you’d expect at Encanterra!

And after that, it was time to start the party!

During dinner, to the surprise of Paul, one of their friends stood next to a mike with her guitar and began to explain that she was about to sing a song that consisted of her music and Jinny’s words.  Together, they wrote a song as a special surprise to Paul!  The song was beautiful and it was one of my favorite moments of the whole day.

The details at the reception were really cute as well.  They had a candy bar… not like a snickers bar, more like a trip to the candy store where you scoop various kinds of candy into a bag to take home as a wedding favor!  The cool part about the candy bar (besides the fact that it was made up of delicious sugar) was that all the candy fit their color theme!  It was all brown and green… and there are more green candies out there than I ever knew! This was quite a tasty and pretty little feature at their wedding!

So Jinny and Paul tied the knot and I’d say the whole event was quite a success!  It was beautiful, the couple was happy, and all the guests had a fantastic time!

Congratulations Jinny and Paul and the best of luck to you both!!

Ghostbusters, the science of love, and a giant pumpkin cake… the story of Tiffany and Ed’s wedding

I tried about 10 different titles for this blog before I finally settled on one.  Tiffany and Ed’s wedding had so many interesting things about it that I had way too many creative options for this title!

What I mean to say is that the details at Tiffany and Ed’s wedding RULED!

(Notice their wedding date on the back of her shoes!).

Or they rocked, killed it, were sick… insert whatever random phrase you use to describe things as “the best” and you will know what Tiffany and Ed’s wedding looked like.

Leading up to the wedding we were hearing bits and pieces about this wedding that we didn’t quite know how to put together.  Things like, “ribbons for the guests to wave”, “unity candy” (I thought Scottie had meant to write candle on the notes sheet… but candy was actually correct), and “chemistry beakers for toasts” were all thrown and out there and left us scratching our heads.

Basically, when we arrived at the Arizona Science Center on the day before Halloween with our cameras in hand, ready to shoot Tiffany and Ed’s wedding we had no idea what we were about to walk into…

…and what we found, took our breath away.

Their wedding had a theme that was a cross between science and Halloween, and somehow Tiffany and Ed found a way to make Halloween elegant and science romantic!

If Martha Stewart had walked into this wedding, she would have realized that the quality of this work makes all of her work look like a complete failure and she would have run away crying! Yes, that’s how good all of the decor, details, and handmade items at this wedding were!

As we wandered between the ceremony and reception site (passing guests along the way who were happily learning about gravity and relativity in the science center), we were awestruck at how beautiful and completely unique everything was!!

There were the science details such as each table being named after scientists both real and fake (that’s where I got the ghostbusters part of the title)…

…the beakers they drank their champagne out of that said “Mr.” and “Mrs.”, and of course all the things that naturally sat around the science center like little science facts on the wall behind their head table!

In fact, science was such a major part of their wedding that it was the major topic of their ceremony.  Their officiant gave a very poetic and elegant talk -that was simultaneously very intellectual and factual- all about string theory and how the universe brought Tiffany and Ed together.

I am still impressed that she was able to make science sound romantic… but she really did explain the science of love very beautifully!

She adjusted a quote from Casablanca to introduce string theory saying, “out of all the candy stores in all the towns, in all the world, he walks into mine” (they met at Fuzziwig’s candy store.. hence the unity candy that they poured together during the ceremony and the nerds/smarties favors they had for all the guests at the tables).

Aside from having their wedding in the “hallowed house of science” (as Ed put it)…

…there was another thing that was very important to Tiffany and Ed that was well represented at this wedding… Halloween!

(Check out her orange bling!).

The elegant touch of the Halloween theme was brought in through the avenue of “fall”.  Fall leaves and colors coated everything, with big leaves and little pumpkins added into the beautiful bouquets of orange and red, and large pumpkins with classy decorations on them as the centerpieces.

The black chairs, the white pumpkins with “Mr.” and “Mrs.” painted on them and most of all – the unbelievable pumpkin cake…

(Yes, that is a REAL cake!  I had some myself just to make sure! And of course, it was pumpkin flavored).

…made this wedding not only unique, but also very stunning!  One of my favorite details were the little balls with fall leaves and candles inside that looked like they were hanging down from the sky… SO cool!

I’m totally stealing that idea for my next party!

It’s OK though because they “borrowed” the idea we used at the bridal show of having photos on a chalkboard wall with frames drawn around them!  We were honored that they liked our idea so much and we felt like we got to put a little piece of Radiant into their wedding decor!

I seriously could go on and on about the details here.  Every little nook and cranny was covered with time and thought that represented Tiffany and Ed’s personalities oh so well! You will just have to check out the rest of the photos to see more!

We did venture out of the Science Center some to explore the area around the little historic district that we were in.

Tiffany and Ed did their reveal moment outside of one of the old houses (that they made us give a “donation” to in order to take pictures in front of!!)…

… and then we hung around the area to get some pics of the entire bridal party!

(Like our Facebook page to tag yourself in some of these photos!).

Check out their shoes… just another great detail that Tiffany dreamed up!!

Tiffany and Ed, your wedding was definitely freaking cool and we loved every part about it!

The ceremony, the decorations, the people, and the dancing (something I haven’t even mentioned yet but was amazing as well)  was all wonderful!  I hope you guys had as much fun as you seemed to be! We are so glad you booked your fall themed Unique Session in Sedona (photos from it coming soon!) because we are so happy to have more than one opportunity to work with the two of you!
