Luke’s Senior Session of Sitting on and Jumping off Things (by Josh & Kelley)

Can I (Kelley) just start off this post by saying that senior sessions are incredible?!  I mean let’s be honest and just state the fact that teenagers will always be about a billion times cooler than me.

Exhibit A:  Luke.  Enough said.

Even when I was a teenager, teenagers were cooler than me.  And that “coolness” always seems to shine through in photos and make for some amazing shots!

(I can’t really give “being a teenager” all of the credit for this shot. Luke is obviously a PRO in front of the camera!)

Now, for those of you that don’t know Luke, get to know him. I mean right now!  Josh and I spent over an hour taking his photos, chatting with him,  and just getting to know him. He’s pretty darn awesome!

We also learned a few things about Luke from his mom and dad who came along for the shoot.  For example, Luke likes to sit on things.

I know, I know, random right?  But apparently sitting anywhere and everywhere is a real talent of his.  In fact, Luke and his family recently took a trip around Italy (yeah, I’m jealous too!) and they all joke that it was Luke’s trip of Italian things to sit on.  Naturally, we had to grab a few shots of Luke just sitting around.

We also heard that Luke was a pretty skilled jumper.  And, while Josh and I are pretty tough critics when it comes to jumping (we have some pretty mad jumping skills ourselves), we give Luke a solid 10 out of 10!

In the fall, Luke will be starting classes at ASU (see, I told you he’s cool… Can you tell Josh and I are ASU graduates?), and I’m sure he will do wonderfully.  Not only am I sure that he will do well in his classes, but I’m predicting that he will also be great when it comes to sitting on and jumping off all sorts of things on campus.

But in all seriousness Luke, thanks for letting Josh and me help you and your family document this important milestone in your life, we had a blast!

Congratulations on graduating and good luck with your future at ASU.  You’re going to be GREAT!

Kim and Tru’s Camelback Engagement Session (by Josh & Kelley)

When Josh and I (Kelley) got an email from Kim and Tru saying that they’d like to incorporate Camelback Mountain into their engagement shoot, we were stoked!

Camelback is absolutely beautiful, and surprisingly enough, we don’t get to shoot there very often.  I think it’s something about living in the desert makes people crave green fields and grassy parks in photo sessions.

Understandably, when people plan a photo session, they often want something “different” than they see everyday.  Ironically enough, that ends up making desert shoots in Phoenix pretty unique!

All that to say Josh and I were extremely excited about a Camelback photo session.  So, later on, when we heard why this location was so important to Kim and Tru, it was just the icing on the cake.

You see, Kim and Tru hiked up Camelback on their very first date.  Strangely enough, Kim didn’t know it was a date at the time.

Nevertheless, Tru made sure it was the perfect first date.  It fact, at one point during the climb, Kim slipped and Tru pretty much saved her life!  A story that their families still talk about to this day!

(Tru does somewhat resemble a knight in shining armor doesn’t he?)

Now, some may think that this whole life saving story is an exaggeration, but I FULLY believe it.  I was on that mountain with them during the photo session, and while some of us were falling over rocks, thinking a little too much about hidden rattlesnakes, and being attacked by tree branches (Josh and me… okay, mostly just me.), or trying hard to gracefully climb a mountain in a dress and high heels (Kim), Tru was bouncing around from boulder to boulder fully enjoying himself and helping to keep us all upright. I think that he may secretly be part mountain goat, and I KNOW that he could save the life of a beautiful falling woman, like Kim.

Not only was this mountain the venue of their first date, it was also the spot where Tru proposed.

I can hardly climb Camelback Mountain on a normal day, I can’t even imagine somebody doing it with a stomach full of butterflies and an engagement ring hidden in their pocket.

Still, being the mountain goat that he is, Tru made it all the way to the top that day, and proposed to Kim right then and there.

(This is my FAVORITE photo from their engagement session! You can really SEE how much she loves him!)

It’s no wonder they wanted to use Camelback as the location for their engagement session.  It’s obviously been a pretty huge part of their relationship, and now, with these engagement photos, it has yet another reason to hold a special place in their hearts.

Kim and Tru, Josh and I absolutely loved hanging out with you two on the mountain and hearing more of your beautiful story!   We can’t wait to watch (and photograph) the next chapter of that story as it starts next month on your wedding day!

Madison’s Sweet Sixteen Masquerade (by Josh & Kelley)

Josh and I think it’s safe to say that Madison and her family know how to throw a party.

A few years back, Scottie and Breanna were lucky enough to photograph one of their previous parties, a sweet sixteen bash for their oldest daughter, Morgan.

Now, two years later, Josh and I got to hang out with their family for the night. It was Madison’s big day, and they were going ALL OUT!  We’re talking beautiful decorations to match the masquerade theme, a tower of cupcakes, a fountain of chocolate, a Radiant photobooth for some laugh-out-loud entertainment, a DJ, a dance floor perfectly positioned for busting some moves, and SO much more!

When you meet Madison, it’s hard to believe that she’s sixteen.  She’s what I would call an “old soul” who is “young at heart”.

(How sweet is this photo of Madison kissing her dad on the cheek?!)

She’s kind, caring, and thoughtful.  In fact, rather than begging for gifts, she asked her friends and family to donate to a charity!

(Can I take a moment and point out that Madison’s mom MADE that skirt she’s wearing?  I LOVE it!)

Madison obviously knows how to pick great friends as well.  Josh and I set up a photobooth during her party, and I swear EVERY teenager I took a photo of in the photobooth that night said “thank you” afterwards.  I’m not even kidding, they took the time to thank me for taking their pictures.  How awesome is that?!

Still, don’t be fooled, while this bash may have had some of the world’s most polite and caring teenagers on the guest list, nobody could accuse them of not knowing how to party!

While the living room was full of people putting on crazy props and coming up with hilarious poses for the photobooth, the backyard was similarly overflowing with fun while Madison and her friends showed off their moves on the dance floor.

Not only are Madison and her friends fantastic, but Madison is lucky enough to have an amazing family as well.

With all of the stress that can go into planning a party with your family, it would be understandable if a few unkind words slipped out now and then.  But that was not at all the case with Madison’s family.  Every single family member, from her grandparents to her youngest sister, seemed to genuinely enjoy themselves and they were all happy to be celebrating Madison’s big day.

You can tell that these girls really love each other!

Madison, you are for sure one of the best sixteen-year-olds we know!  Thank you so much for letting Josh and me be a part of your big day!

Niki and Steve’s Silly and Sweet Engagement Session (by Josh & Kelley)

Are you ready to see more smiles in one blog post than you’ve likely EVER seen before?  I hope so, because Niki and Steve’s engagement session is full of them!

Even if you don’t know Niki and Steve (Josh and I consider ourselves lucky to have met them for sure!), you can tell by looking at these photos that they are the kind of people who like to have fun and laugh at life.

Seriously guys, these aren’t “canned” chuckles or forced, “Say CHEESE”, smiles. These are genuine, throw your head back, grab your belly, kind of laughs.

And it’s not just one of them that has a great sense of humor, it’s BOTH!  If Steve isn’t making Niki smile, it’s the other way around.  They’re both jokesters in their own right.

Not only can you see their fun and silly sides in these photos, you can also see, without a doubt, that these two are head over heels in love with each other.

Now and then, while you’re having fun during an engagement session, you have to calm down and remember to get some lovey-dovey shots as well. However, Niki and Steve did both of these naturally and without any prompting.

No kidding, one second they were kissing, and the next they were laughing hysterically. It was the perfect mixture of sweet and silly.

Towards the end of our session together, Steve said, “This is really fun! I wish we could do this every weekend!” And without even thinking I screamed, “Me TOO!”

Aside from the fact that my comment made me seem like a creepy, paparazzi stalker, it shows just how great Niki and Steve are to be around. Taking photos of people is our job, but when it’s with people like Niki and Steve it doesn’t feel like work at all.

Niki and Steve, thank you both so much for letting us be your paparazzi for an evening.  We had a blast and can’t wait for your wedding in May!

Shannon and Keegan’s Mother and Son Session (by Josh & Kelley)

This family photo session has been a long time coming.

Meet Shannon. She is such a hard working woman.  Get this, she teaches fourth grade (yea, she’s one of those teachers that is there before the sun comes up, stays late, and is usually at the school working on the weekends as well), tutors kids on the side, is working on finishing up her doctorate, AND she’s doing all of this while being a fantastic mom to one of the most crazy cool kindergarten students that I have ever met. Oh yea, meet Keegan.

(Just look at that face, you can already tell that he’s cool!)

When Josh and I heard that Shannon and her son hadn’t had a family photo session done since around the time Keegan was in diapers, we knew we HAD to get some photos of these two together.

Now when I said Keegan is crazy cool, I meant it. Check this kid out!

I don’t think I’ve ever met a kindergarten student with a motorcycle like that. It goes so fast! Guys, I couldn’t even ride a normal bike sans training wheels until like the fourth grade and Keegan was out on this thing doing crazy tricks!

(I think Josh would have asked to try the bike out if I wouldn’t have been around. No joke!)

If I had to pick another way to describe Keegan, other than cool, it would be energetic.

This kid was running around, climbing trees, doing push-ups… but his mom was keeping up with him the whole time!

Shannon and Keegan, thank you so much for letting us be a part of your latest family session! Let’s do it again soon!
