Shannon’s Fabulous Wedding Planning Style (by Scott & Breanna)

I think most people would agree with me (Breanna) when I say that the people you work with can make or break a job And that’s why Scottie and I thank our lucky stars that we get to work with Shannon Smith from Sassy Soirees Wedding and Event Planning on a regular basis!

shannon0020

Shannon is that kind of wedding planner who… well, let me just quote to you what I wrote about her in my blog about one of my favorite weddings together, Michelle and Derek’s (by the way, this is actually the CONDENSED version of the Shannon gushing I did in that blog!):

“Michelle and Derek hired Shannon Smith from Sassy Soirees and if their smooth and beautiful wedding day was any indication, I’m sure they’re very happy they did! As always, Shannon winds and unwinds all the complicated details and pieces that have to flow together into one smooth string, and she did it in a way that seemed completely effortless and allowed the couple to just sail through their day as all the beautiful and wonderful pieces of it just “magically” happened all around them.”

shannon0024

(By the way, Shannon’s husband, Marc, was the caterer for that wedding, and let me just say that this is a family of many talents!).

Shannon not only does a great job for her clients, but she also takes amazing care of her vendors to keep everyone happy and working together as a functioning team on the wedding day. This is huge because if she’s doing a great job pulling the details of the team together, then everyone (including us!) are freed up to do our particular jobs to the best of our abilities, so the entire wedding day is the best it can be!

shannon0032

Because Shannon really DOES have such amazing wedding skillz (notice that’s skills with a Z so you know she’s REALLY good!), she wants to make sure that her website shows off her impeccable style as much as possible. So she decided it was time to do a photo session with us to have some shots for her up and coming newly designed site (coming soon!).

shannon0027

Of course we were happy to comply with her photo request! Not only because we love working with her and jump at every chance we get to do so (see her adorable family pillow fight photo session here!), but also because she told us she was bringing her precious daughter, Lola, to pose as her flower girl to show off the idea of having flower girls throw glitter instead of flowers down the aisle!

Shannon, I’ve thanked you so many times in private for how much you help us out at weddings, that I decided to make one of those many private thank yous public so that everyone can see that I really mean what I’m saying about you here! Here’s something I wrote you last year:

“Shannon, as always we LOVED working with you and can’t wait to do it again soon! You are so good at letting us do what we need (like listening to our input on the wedding day schedule), getting us what we need the day of, and coordinating bookings with your couples so smoothly! You really do free us up to do our best and it’s so so so great to work with a planner who does that for us! Truly, THANK YOU for making our job so easy. You are WONDERFUL at what you do! Much Love, Breanna”

Ashley, Mark, and Wyatt’s “Perfectly Imperfect” Photo Session (by Scott & Breanna)

Scottie and I (Breanna) have seen it time and time again…0029A mom who’s trying so hard to make sure everyone is looking and acting perfect on picture day, that her worst fears are actually coming true because her stress is stressing the kids out, causing tension between her and her husband, and she looks crazy frazzled in all the photos!  (See more about how to avoid “photo day mom stress” in my series on “How to Plan a Truly Great Family Photo session“). The reason I’m telling you all of this is because when photo day came around for Ashley and her family, she was as cool as a cucumber!0093Ashley and Mark were both so relaxed that the photo session started all on it’s own before we could even say go! Ashley, Mark, and Wyatt were just hanging out in the park playing together, so we decided we should start taking pictures of it! Now that’s what I call a natural kind of session!00340083The stuff we get of families just playing together all on their own, tends to turn out SO much better than when a mom is running this way and that, pulling her hair out, while trying to MAKE everyone look cute!0065002200510103It doesn’t make much sense when you think about it, because I mean really, how much help does this little guy actually need to look cute?!0045Besides, when left to his own devices, he’s a great little poser all on his own!00470040

(He knew actual poses too so he showed us some of the yoga moves he knows!)

Sure he may not look PERFECT in all the photos…0110…but there’s something so beautiful about that because it’s just him being him! Which is better, remembering him as he really is, or remembering a stranger who’s personality was stripped out of the photos in your attempt to make him look “perfect”?!0063Yes, we vote to see Wyatt as he really is because who could resist?!00800024So three cheers for Ashley and Mark, who chose to let their child enjoy a fun picture day with his parents, rather than trying to constrain him and force him into fake smile world… which just ends in tears anyways!00690025Good job guys, you made the right choice and have the pictures to prove it!003300950088

Quinton and Lori’s 10 year family session (by Scott & Breanna)

Quinton, Lori, and Jada have been family friends of ours for years.britt_0093britt_0040britt_0083

How long have we been friends for, you ask? Well let’s see, here’s Jada now…

britt_0109britt_0112

…and here’s me (Breanna) and Jada at Scottie and my wedding! So yeah, it’s been like at LEAST a year or two since then!

Screen Shot 2013-11-19 at 11.21.34 PM

So when we got the call to come take family photos for Lori and Quinton’s 10 year wedding anniversary, we were psyched!

britt_0048britt_0008

And you can see why!

britt_0073

When I say this a fun family, that’s understatement!

britt_0104britt_0055

This family can laugh with the best of them, which makes Scottie and I laugh with the best of them, which makes for a very fun session with some very crooked pictures!

britt_0061

Luckily, these 3 can also glam it up for some standard (aka straight) family photos where all 5 of us aren’t giggling!

britt_0069

But then there are still a few moments squeezed in between the serious ones like this…

britt_0023

britt_0066

(Like father, like daughter!)

Thanks Quinton, Lori, and Jada for a very fun family session! We are so happy we have you in our lives and we are so happy we were able to capture this time period in your lives together! Congratulations on 10 years Quinton and Lori! We look forward to being a part of many more of your years together down the road!

Mason’s Sporty Senior Session (by Scott & Breanna)

If you know Mason at all, you are probably not very surprised by the title of this blog.

Sports are his life. Especially basketball.

mason0006mason0007

I’m sure it is very difficult to balance life when you’re an incredible athlete who’s good with every piece of sporting equipment you lay hands on. But just as Mason is able to balance all his equipment in this photo, he’s able to balance all the sports in his life!

mason0019

Since so much of his time is spent on the court, it only made sense to get some shots of Mason’s every day life in his senior photos!

mason0010

After being court side for awhile, we decided it was time to get some non-basketball related photos for awhile, so we headed to one of our favorite spots to finish out the session, The Tempe Center for the Arts.

mason0027mason0024

And we were glad we did! There’s SO much to shoot there! We could’ve shot all day!

mason0051

And in fact, we sort of did considering we went on into the night. And again, we were glad we did! How else would we have gotten some of these photos of the amazing lighting that’s to be seen around there!

mason0070mason0066

If you can’t tell, Scottie and myself (Breanna) are big fans of Mason’s senior pictures! Mason, we hope you love them as much as we do! We had a great time working with you! Congrats on your upcoming graduation!

mason0037

P.S. In case you missed it, we also had the privilege of shooting Mason’s brother, Keegan’s, senior pictures a couple years back! Yes, this family has more than one multi-talented kid!

Theresa and Lem’s Extra Special Wedding Day (by Josh & Kelley)

During Lem and Theresa’s wedding, Josh and I (Kelley) witnessed something that was altogether new to us.

It seemed, that just about every person involved in Lem and Theresa’s wedding was EXTRA special.

You know that close group of friends you have? The people that make up your “inner-circle”? Well, Lem and Theresa must have a HUGE inner-circle, because we’re pretty sure each and every person at their wedding was a close friend, a close family member, and/or a very important person in their lives.

The whole day was a friend and family affair…

(In case you’re wondering, this beautiful venue is the Secret Garden in Scottsdale!)

From the tears that fell at the sight of the stunning bride…

To the multiple ring-bearers and flower girls…

And an extra supportive (and super silly) bridal party…

It’s no wonder it was important to Lem and Theresa that they get a shot of EVERYONE at the end of the ceremony!

Of course, we did make sure to steal the bride and groom away for a few minutes alone.

While Lem and Theresa clearly cherish the closeness they have with their friends and family, you can tell that the relationship they have with each other is like no other relationship in their lives.

The giggles and smiles that well up when they’re around each other are undeniable evidence: they’re in love to stay!

Lem and Theresa, we’re so glad you’ve got each other, and all of the awesome friends and family members that you’ve surrounded yourselves with! It’s clear to us that you’ve got a pretty fantastic life ahead of you!
