Alex and David and their perfect wedding!

When David proposed to Alex, it didn’t take her long to figure out where she wanted to have the wedding.

Next to David, Troon North Golf Club in AZ was her one and only.

And I can see why!

The desert setting in January was PERFECT for all of their out of town guests who just couldn’t wait to get out of the snow.

It was an absolutely perfect day, and everything from the sky and the decorations…

…to the bride and her bridesmaids, were just beautiful.

It really couldn’t have been a more perfect setting for a perfect wedding.

(Like our Facebook page if you want to tag yourself in some of these photos!).

The only thing that was about to go wrong was quickly solved as one of the bridesmaids graciously rushed back to the hotel to get Alex’s forgotten jewelry and arrived back just in time for pictures.  See, even the “almost mistakes” were fixed perfectly!

Alex was the perfect bride with her relaxed attitude and beautiful laughter that was heard every time David was near (I must say, he’s a pretty funny guy!).

And David was the perfect groom as he was ready and willing to climb any rock and stand in any pose we asked of him, all while maintaining a big, excited smile on his face the entire time.

Alex and David…  you guys definitely know how to put on a successful wedding and you made our job go so smoothly!  Thanks for being so easy to work with and for being wonderful people.  We wish you all the best of luck in your future together!

Good times in Downtown Phoenix: Inez and Phil’s engagement session

If you happen to know Phil and Inez, then you are probably confused why they had engagement photos taken 9 months after their actual wedding!

So let me explain… before they got married they opted for a family session with their kids rather than an engagement session with just the two of them.  Right after the wedding they realized that they missed out on a chance to have some special photos together so they decided to go ahead and schedule a session with us!

Of course, having just done a family session and a wedding they were a little “posed out”… especially Phil, who told us right away that we’d have a hard time working with him because he hates having his picture taken!

FYI Phil, you actually did really well, and I hope we made it pretty easy on you!

(As you can see, he at least made the session easy on Inez!  I loved watching how much he made her laugh… so cute!).

Anyways, they decided to wait a while to have their next session, which puts us here and now with fresh photos from the recent engagement session of this newly wed couple!

(I love how Inez looks like a shy teenager with her first boyfriend in this picture!  Oooh, she’s in LOOOOVE!).

After a little discussion, Inez and Phil decided to do their session in Downtown Phoenix because the area has a lot of meaning to them.

(Inez wasn’t the only one he could make laugh…Phil gave us some pretty hilarious faces throughout the whole session.  Actually, he was making us laugh so hard, I was worried all our pictures were going to be blurry!!).

Phil grew up in that area and he used to work there too.  He also is an artist and had some of his work displayed in a nearby gallery for the First Fridays art walk.  On top of all that, their children used to attend classes at an Arts Center around the area as well.

So even though I (Breanna) have lived in Phoenix my whole life, I felt like I had my own special tour guides while walking around there with the two of them because they knew so much about the downtown area!

And it was a good thing too because once we felt like we had covered the space we had planned on shooting in, they knew just the place to take us to get a bit of inspiration.  And it worked!

They were patient while we played around with a few new looks and new ways of doing things to catch the feel of Downtown Phoenix at night.  I hope you guys love the results as much as we do!

We had a ton of fun working with you both and we hope we run into you guys around the art walk or something soon!

Baseball and music collide: Keegan’s senior session

I have to admit that when we were driving to meet Keegan for his session both Scottie and I were a little nervous.

You see, we LOVE doing senior sessions, but we tend to work with girls a lot more than guys.  And even though they’re the same age, those happen to be 2 very different groups of people… shocking, isn’t it.

Luckily, Keegan was the perfect person to ease us back into working with senior guys after our long female driven hiatus.  He was really easy going and friendly and he made both of us feel comfortable immediately… which is actually our job, so hopefully we did the same for him!

(We had to get a few mom shots in there too!).

Keegan loves baseball…

…and music.

So we decided to combine the two by having him wear his uniform for some photos…

…and by picking our location based around the music wall that I love so much!

Unfortunately, we realized a little too late that one of his best friends recently had her session with us at the same place (oops).  Since the “twinsie” look isn’t really one that either one of them is into, we had the extra challenge of shooting the same location from a totally different viewpoint in order to make it look like a completely different place!

(This is the “up” view).

(This is the “down” view).

We long ago decided that whenever we’re forced with a creative challenge… good things happen!

So Keegan, I think you’ll agree that your session is one of those “good things”!

Thanks for being so easy to work with and for having such a good time with your photo session, you made our job very fun for us! 🙂

Good luck with all your future plans!

Sisters in Pink: Kelli and April’s session

If you believe there can never be too much pink in one place at a time, then you will definitely appreciate this session!

Kelli and April are not only kindred spirits in pinkness, but they are sisters!

April came into town for Christmas and Kelli decided it was the perfect time for a little photo opp with their own special brand of pink props that she’d been working on for awhile.

Exhibit A:  the pink shopping cart.

This item is a must for pink fiends… or for felons who like to steal shopping carts and use a lot of pink paint. Just kidding, this particular cart was obtained in a very moral manner!

Following the pink cart we have the pink lollipops…

…this prop just screams sisterly love…

… especially when you get photos like this one that remind you they are indeed sisters!

(April won this round by the way).

Then there is the Merry Christmas sign that Kelli made (silver spray paint is her new obsession) to go along with their pink Santa hats of course.

This sign shot was designed entirely for the purpose of being a Facebook profile pic so Kelli brought her own camera to get a shot she could put up since she knew these photos wouldn’t be up until we got back from the break we took over the holidays. And now we just look lame putting up a Merry Christmas photo in January… but her Facebook looked awesome in December!

Aside from the props, there were the pink clothing items that made an appearance.  These unbeatable rain boots for instance!

Since April lives somewhere with actual rain, I wouldn’t be surprised if these became a permanent staple in her daily wardrobe!  Look how cute she looks in them!

And how could we forget the tutus and the “LOVE” shirts to match.

When I saw that just days before the session Kelli was asking on Facebook if anyone knew how to make a tutu, I thought we were going to have to do without these!  But they knotted, weaved (and watched a little “ehow” I’m sure), and they pulled off these fluffy pink creations just in time!

Now I have to tell you story about how we came across these super cute sisters!

Back in the early days of Radiant we ran a campaign as part of our Radiant Love program where we gave away a free photo session to someone who was nominated by a friend for the love they were showing to those around them.

Kelli (she’s the blonde) won for the work she’s done with the non-profit organization she co-started called “Hope and a Future“.  You may have seen our blog with the photos we volunteered to shoot at a prom for teenage foster girls.  This is one of the many events put on by Hope and a Future and is called the Princess Program, which falls at the beginning of a week long camp for these same girls. If you haven’t seen the post, go back and look because it is an absolutely INCREDIBLE event (complete with astounding amounts of pink that lets you know Kelli is behind it all!)!  I (Breanna) just re-read the blog about it again myself and I started crying all over again remembering how amazing it was to watch these girls go through such a transforming experience.

The Princess Program and the camp are both just small pieces of the love that Hope and a Future shows to foster kids. They have not only multiple camps and events similar to the Princess Program but also mentoring, college scholarships, and a life skills class for foster teens (which is something I am particularly passionate about).  Go check out their website to see more about this beautiful organization that Scottie and I have come to love.

And of course behind all that is given to these kids… is Kelli.  Which is the reason she won a free session with us!  Hope and a Future is literally changing the lives of these children in astounding ways and it is Kelli’s dream, dedication, and passion that has made it all happen.  It blows my mind to think of how many lives are being completely transformed and set on entirely new paths all because of Hope and Future and this beautiful girl who cared enough about others to dedicate her life to them.

Giving back to this organization (and the person behind it) is nothing short of a humbling honor.

Thank you both Kelli and April for letting loose and having F-U-N with us!!!  When we were planning this session, I was scared you guys wouldn’t be able to relax and be yourselves… little did I know that would not be a problem AT ALL!

You guys did fantastic and I hope you’re as happy with the results as we are!

P.S. OK now that you are done with what you were doing, make sure you go like Hope and Future on Facebook to help spread the word about them and to follow along when they announce ways you can get involved!

“The Top 25 Radiant Photos of 2010: Family/ Senior Sessions”

39 votes

OK, so there was no way around giving this one it’s own category.  It had so many more votes than the rest that it stands alone!  Good job little caped crusaders!

10-20 votes

This photo received one of our most insightful comments: “The shadow is like her inner self. LIKE!” – Britney Corbitt .  It makes me think of Peter Pan or something!

I can’t even tell you how many people told me that this girl is beautiful!  Whether it was people looking at photos over my shoulder, or comments on the album… everyone agrees, she is absolutely stunning!!

I (Breanna) picked out those hats myself at Michaels and saved them for just the right photo session….I chose the right one because these boys loved them!

I think this picture is going to be a staple.  We’ve already done another session for this family and they wanted to duplicate the shot with her pink converse on instead!  You can’t beat the leg rolls in this one though!!

One of my favorite comments ever: “Nate votes for this one “cause there’s six of us” and the other boys are giggling – “that’s me, hee hee” “lots of Nates and Andrews, ha ha!”- Molly Ellison (the mom of these 3 sweet boys).

6-9 votes

Whether they spelled it “color” or “colour” people just couldn’t get enough of it in this picture!

These boys were so excited to wear their cool hats! 🙂

This is another pose that we’ve duplicated!  This is actually round 2 of it!  The first one was taken at her Trash the Dress session after her wedding where she was surrounded by mud and fall leaves…and here we are at her maternity session re-living the moment!  I promise, there’s a legit baby bump there, this pose just happens to hide it well! 🙂

She’s a budding photographer, so we let her borrow a camera for this shot!

This is one of my personal favorites so I’m glad it won fair and square so that I didn’t have to consider fixing the contest!

You can’t beat a mother/daughter tea party… how could it not have won?!

By the way, we don’t have many spots left for 2011 senior sessions, so if you like what you see here send us a message to book yours soon!  Be sure to check out our seniors site if you’ve never been there before!

And that’s the end of our Best of 2010 photo contest! Congratulations to all our winners… we already knew you deserved to win!

If you missed the winners in the Weddings/ Unique Session category, make sure you click here to see it… it has some of my favorite stuff we’d done yet!  Make sure you like our page on Facebook to follow along with us and see what new things we come up with for 2011.
