Kathy & Tom’s fun family engagement session!

I recently had a very unique, very memorable experience… I met the smiliest family in the entire world.  That’s right, they smiled all the time.

They stood, they smiled.

They sat, they smiled.

They did some playful rough-housing, they smiled.

We asked them to do a serious face and… well, yeah right! We did luck out and get this one… but Natalie and Tom look like they’re about to crack! 🙂

It was seriously such a fun session though (click to see the rest of the photos)!  It was Kathy and Tom’s engagement session and they brought along the girls to get some family shots at the same time.  It usually takes about 20 min. of shooting before people start to loosen up in front of the camera, but this family was chill from the beginning!

They were so playful and so interactive and affectionate that we hardly even had to pose them at all!  They just naturally got all cuddled up close together and made our job pretty easy!  Um, not to mention every member of the family was totally perfect looking!

Congratulations on your engagement Kathy and Tom… we can’t wait for the wedding!!!

P.S. at the end of the session we asked if there were any poses they really wanted that they think we missed, and the one below was the only one Kathy wanted to make sure we got…. I love it. 🙂

A toast to the little boys in tuxedos and little girls in tiaras

This blog is dedicated to all the little people out there who have been forced to ditch out on a day of cartoons to sit quietly for hours in stiff, mini-tuxes or itchy lace dresses while listening to the grown- ups drone on and on about mushy stuff (gag).

So many kids have passed by our way on wedding days and we don’t help their cause at all since we tell them to stand up straighter, stop hitting their sisters, and quit picking their noses when all they want to do is go climb the trees and get grass stains on their pants.

0233(You may think this kid got away with having a little fun, but I believe this was right about the moment he heard his first name followed by his middle name… uh oh).

0112(While it may seem that this little girl had the best day of her life… again, the dreaded first name/middle name combination was heard.  I always wonder when I’m going to hear my middle name used for being the first adult to witness these things and taking pictures rather than stopping them).

After forcing them to follow all our ridiculous photography instructions that make no sense to them whatsoever, we proceed to further insult their intelligence by pretending that “cheese” is a silly enough word that it will make them laugh.  And we wonder why portrait town is the place where tantrums are born!

alyssa_dan_bc1184(She’s not really throwing a tantrum, this is her own unique dance move.  I’m not about to embarrass some poor parent and put a tantrum shot in here… though we have plenty!)

Yes, we are the stupid photographers that make your day absolutely insufferable by making you smile when it’s clearly your nap time.

We’re the ones who cause your mom to send you that nasty glare with the threat of timeout in it.

alyssa_dan_bc0280(Maybe not this one, she doesn’t look like she ever gets into trouble… then again, it’s always the cute ones that get you!)

We know the pain we cause you and that’s why we wanted to dedicate a little piece of wedding history to you.  It doesn’t make up for the drama, we can only hope it might at least give you reason to hold your tears in until after that one last picture (yes, the real last one…the one that comes after the one we promised was the last one).

alyssa_dan_sc0774(I think it’s safe to say she’s had one too many… photos taken I mean.  She’s trying so hard to pull through and keep that smile going)!

So raise your glasses and toast to the real heroes of the day…. the ones who endure the very worst that a wedding day has to offer… the kids.

As much as they want to show their parents how miserable they are at this wedding they were dragged to, every once in awhile the kids surprise themselves by actually having fun!

booth(I guess having the Radiant Photobooth there helps! And by the way there’s way more fun stuff like this on our Photobooth video so check it out if you haven’t seen it!)

And there’s no way I could write this blog without including my favorites… the kids who decide to REALLY bust a move!!!

00500052-1alyssa_dan_sc14890056(This was one of my all time favorite wedding moments!  Read the full account on my blog about Becca & Ryan’s wedding!).

Alright kids now we’re even, so we expect beautiful, patient smiles at every wedding from now on!  Ahh, we’re suckers, you know we’ll take one look at you in a cute little outfit with your hair all done up and we’ll be like putty in your hands!

P.S. We want to give a special shout out to all the parents we see chasing their kids around at weddings… we are in awe of you!

Sarah and Jason gettin’ hitched!

So we show up at the wedding in Las Cruces, NM and the bride says, “OK, I’m sharing my day today”.  Wait, what?!  I’ve heard brides say a lot of things, but I’m pretty sure that’s a new one!  Thinking back on it, I’m not sure she used those words, but everything about her wedding day definitely communicated that this was not all about her.  It was about her fiance’, her daughter, her mom, and countless other family members and friends.

(Hanging out with her and her mom before the ceremony was sooo fun.  Usually “fun” would be substituted with “stressful”, but this wedding was different!  They were totally cracking me up! Thanks for a good time ladies!)

The most moving part of the day was how Sarah and Jason both went so out of their way to make sure her daughter (Katie) felt like a princess on this day!  Katie got to wear the poofiest, most pretty in pink, super-star princess dress ever!  She definitely out-shined everyone on stage… in a good way!  How can a bridesmaid in a simple, brown dress compete with rhinestones and a tiara?! Katie got to participate in every aspect of the wedding day, she even got her very own princess cake to cut!  (Click the link to see more photos of the awesome pink dress along with the rest of the wedding photos). I have to say, as I watched Katie performing her Hannah Montana dance at the reception in her pink puffy dress, I felt like I was 10 all over again because that is EXACTLY what I would’ve wore and what I would’ve done if I was in her situation at that age!  Actually, it’s possible I would still be willing to wear and do the same things even now!  How could I deny a chance to dance around wearing shiny pink things with all the attention on me?! Watching how Katie was included in everything was absolutely beautiful.

(This was the part in the ceremony that was all about Katie and the new family they were becoming).

Sarah and Jason included other family members in the ceremony as well.  Jason’s dad is the pastor in the church they got married in so he performed a very touching ceremony.

(Here’s Jason standing next to his dad who’s praying over his son’s marriage during the ceremony.)

(Another thing that showed how much their marriage is centered on family is that they had both their parents come up and pray over them in the ceremony.  All the guests reached out their hands in a prayer over them at the same time.  You could tell it was very meaningful for them both to have so many of their loved ones praying for them and with them).

0033(Another chance to involve the family in her wedding was by having her mom play a special song for them during the ceremony.  And oh wow, can that lady sing!!!).

0046(Even Sarah’s grandparents who couldn’t be there, were involved in the day through a special pre-recorded video message they made.  That’s of course what she’s watching through her tears in this photo.)

So to say that family is important to them is quite the understatement.  Their entire wedding was centered around the strong relationships that they rely on to support their own relationship.  Throughout the whole day, they used the love that’s all around them to highlight their own love and it was beyond beautiful.

Of course I can’t resist putting  a few more of my favorites in here….

(Her dad and I worked really hard to get a non-panties shot and it just didn’t happen… but I think it’s cute this way anyways!)

Well Sarah and Jason, it’s obvious that you put lots of time and thought into every moment of your wedding day and you worked really hard to make it all very special.  First of all we want you to know that your hard work paid off because it was a very special day, but mostly we want to say thank you for allowing us to be part of it all.  Congratulations!!

Starting a new life in an old building…Lydia & Matt’s wedding!

It’s very rare to find anything that’s actually old in Phoenix Arizona so when we find something that is… we take our cameras!  That’s why we were so excited when Lydia and Matt told us their wedding was going to be at Shenandoah Mills which is an old mill in Gilbert Arizona that actually used to work and everything! Old wood, rusty metal, and a beautiful, BEAUTIFUL bride to contrast it all… sounds like a perfect Radiant wedding to me!!

Lydia and Matt decided to do a “reveal” moment which means they get to see each other before the wedding and spend a little time alone before they get wrapped up in the busy events of the day.  So we made him turn his back to her and wait… and wait… and wait!  I’m sure he was probably muttering curses under his breath at us for making him wait so long!  But you know… suspense and everything! 🙂  Judging by the look on her face, I’m pretty sure Lydia really enjoyed dragging it out too (she was sneaking up on her tiptoes like a little kid who’s trying to catch Santa Clause… so cute)! Check out the rest of the wedding photos here to see his reaction when he finally did get to see her!

Once they finally did get to see each other… they pretty much never let go after that!

The actual ceremony area in the backyard of the Mill was beautiful too!  The easiest way to make me a very happy girl is to put little white lights over a backdrop of solid green ivy (giving me a cup of coffee in that setting will make you my instant BFF)!  Matt and Lydia had all that plus an Arizona sunset, with friends and family all around to enjoy the beauty with them!  We hope our pictures help them all remember this perfect moment in time, just as it was, forever.

I had to throw this one in because it’s one of my favorite groomsmen pictures ever… even if it does lack the actual groom’s head!  That’s reason #124 why I love art… you’re free to move and remove body parts at your whim (just ask Picasso)!

Congratulations to Lydia and Matt!  Thanks for giving us the privilege to be a part of your day… it definitely was a wonderful one!  We wish you all the best!
